I have been on a search to locate a replacement HID bulb for what I think are the daytime running lights, we removed the bulb and connected module ballast just yesterday, and are trying to purchase one online... some people say that the Philips or Sylvania D3S will work, however when I punch in our make and model to some websites they say this bulb is noncompatible!! Can someone please clearly describe what model number or part number this HID bulb is.... Again we have a 2014 Kia Sorrento SXL . Actually Home Depot website had a Philips bulb that looks a lot like what we had taken out of the Sorrento, please let us know what you think. Below is the Home Depot link with the specs for the Bulb, your input much appreciated.

You haven't provided much information about what you are trying to do so I will try to cover as many possibilities as I can. I'm going to assume you live in the US... if not, please provide your country of residence.

You don't have factory DRLs if you live in the US. In North America, only Canadian vehicles come with daytime running lights as standard equipment.

If you have the optional HID headlights then the correct capsule (often called a bulb) is the D3S. However, an HID capsule should not have failed so soon - they normally outlast incandescent (halogen) bulbs by a factor of four, averaging about 2,000 hours of use. I would call your dealer and see if they might cover it under warranty because it failed prematurely.

If you don't have the optional HID headlights then you have H7 halogen headlight bulbs. You can't simply plug in HID "bulbs" as replacements for halogen bulbs - you must buy a complete conversion kit that includes the bulbs and the ballasts (and sometimes a relay). Even then I'm not sure if it can be done because of the odd way Kia made their headlamp sockets.

You also can't use HIDs as daytime running lights (if you're in Canada or if you plan to wire up your own version of DRLs) because the ballast won't work properly with the PWM (pulse width modulation) circuit used to reduce the average voltage supplied to the lights for DRL usage.

D3S is an industry standard size with very exacting specifications so any bulb that is sold as D3S will fit. Just be sure to stick with a known brand name because there are cheap bulbs that will fit but which are poorly made and won't last. For example, Sylvania makes D3S bulbs that are $130 each while there are Chinese made D3S bulbs that sell for only $30 for a pair! You should be fine with Philips as they are a recognized brand name in the automotive lighting field.

^ Get the D3S Morimoto bulbs from TRS! They offer it in 3 colors - 4300K, 5500K and 6000K and they only cost $70.
I'm about to buy the 5500K one a month or two from now, as Fall approaches i'd get to use my headlights more and more.

And plus, they're a reputable company backed with 2 yrs warranty.

Disclaimer: I'm in no way connected with TRS, just a happy customer.

I have been on a search to locate a replacement HID bulb
why don't you simply read what type of HID you have from the headlight assembly?
It should say there what you have.
As for high beam it might say H1, for low beam it may say whatever it is. Look closely as the marks are sometimes on the clear lense or on the body.

And one more question.
Why do you need to replace them?
They last years...
