We signed the papers yesterday on a 2015 Sorento.Cant wait to get the call that she is ready! So as soon as I got home I went on Ebay to see what goodies I can get to dress her up..Yikes, there are tonnes of things to put on it..What do you gals n guys do to dress up your rides? Would ya mind posting up pics?
Also what about these? Do they work as they say the will? An extra 75 hp and 6 miles to the gallon sure would be nice!
Congrads on the new Sorento, we bought a 2015 Sorento EX V6 AWD last fall, has been great so far and been to the mountains twice this winter. Not sure if you got AWD or FWD but seeing that you live in Ontario, I recommend winter tires, that is the first thing we bought for the Sorento. We drove the first few weeks of winter with the all season that came with it because of some issues we had ordering tires/wheels. And while the Sorento has a very good AWD system, the tires suck big time in the snow. Night and day difference with the winter tires.
Stay away from the "ebay chips" there is no way that it will add 75hp, what those "chips" are is a resistor that alters the signal going to the computer to trick it, in return the computer usually will add more fuel to give you more power. In theory it might add a few hp(1-5hp) but could/will also cause problems, it will want to run rich and will most likely void any warranty should you have any engine problems. The V6 is already pretty peppy engine but if you are looking to add power, I am not sure there is much out there but could look at a K&N drop in filter(or wait for a actual intake to be released) or look at custom exhaust(probably no kits to buy yet or anytime soon). For any tuning, it would have to be custom and I don't believe anyone has done any tuning for the Sorento, +95% of people that buy a new sorento will probably not mod it in any way besides maybe wheels/tires so the aftermarket market is not very big for it. Could join Diablo sport forums or something and request them add the Sorento for future tuning but it would be unlikely. But if they were to tune it, someone like diablo sport would have a few options with their handheld tuner to run on different octane, for example, maybe 5-10hp increase on 87 octane and 20+hp on 91-94 octane. If they see a big interest, they may look at making this happen but don't hold your breath.
Stay away from these cheap Ebay gimmicks. If it was that cheap and easy to add "75 hp"...KIA would have already done it from the factory.
Legitimate chip tuning costs a lot of money as there is a lot of R&D. And generally speaking, it is usually at a compromise--such as reduced longevity of the engine, reduced drive-ability or a requirement of using only 91+ octane gas.
Besides, the returns on chip tuning a naturally aspirated engine is usually very disappointing. Usually only 5-10 hp which is not really worth it. I would only get a chip tune for a turbo or supercharged engine.
For the Sorento...keep it stock. I don't even think the K&N Filters are worth the money to be honest.
Ok thanks for the info..I dont want to tune anything trust me...lol I just thought if it worked as well as they say then why not.. So back to the other part of my question, what do you do to dress up your Sorento's and are you willing to share any pics?
Congrats on your purchase! Please find time to edit the trim of your Sorento so we all know what we're talking about here.
Most aftermarket parts-buyers buy:
-all-weather mats like Weathertech
-roof racks (crossbars if you have the SX)
-wheels and tires
-rear bumper cover protector
-window deflectors
-custom front grill
-LED interior lights
-better D3S HID bulbs (if you have SX)
-aluminum pedals
Posting a picture of your ride would be welcome as well.
I got the vent/window visors, 2nd set of winter wheels and tires(was hoping to get nice alum winter wheels but the place I was dealing with was nothing but problems so said forget it and just bought steelies as it was a month into winter and the stock all seasons suck in the snow.
The one picture is not mine but just to show you a broken k badge with a painted grill, I would like to get the badges for my Sorento as well. Lots of stuff you can do, all depends on what you want to do?
I have seen the badge removal..Any reason for that at all? Are KIA's a bad thing or something? I cant believe all the stuff on ebay for these things..I dont get mine untill maybe Saturday. I will post a pic or 2 when I get it..
The kia badge is just kinda ugly IMO, many people with other cars will remove all the badges for a cleaner look but on kia's and some other makes, the badge is recessed a little so you cant really just remove it. I think Kia is a very good brand for value and lots of people are unaware of their cars. Changing the badges will make people wonder more and more "what kind of car is that?"
What color did you go with? and AWD or FWD?
Ya I never got that either..In Ontario we have to have 2 plates one on the front and one on the back..Anyone could easily get that info on any given day..Id block it out if I knew how..Im a home renovator..Computers are not my thing..lol just not so young anymore..
You might be surprised what some people have access to. Yes, I agree the number is exposed while you're driving around, but this is posted on the internet for anyone (and anywhere) to see. Nefarious types are very cunning and resourceful in their quest to profit off of others.
If there weren't a privacy issue, why would Google blur out all license plate numbers of cars in their street view?
