I have the light package already but it's dank in the floorboard. I want to add a led strip under the dash on both sides to give light in the floorboards. Anyone know the best place tp tap in on a wire the comes on only with lights are on?

If there is no light in the foot wells, then you do NOT have the light package. The accessory light package that Kia offers as a dealer item adds LED's to the foot wells and cup holders, with a button to change the colors between red, green, blue, or off. If you can afford it, that would be the best way to go, but it is much more expensive than doing it yourself with some cheap LED strips.

That is not the light package, they all have that. If you had the "light package", there would be a button on the side of the small square storage space behind the shifter. It is actually called an interior lighting kit and like I said, it is a Kia accessory that is installed at the dealer. I believe the cost is around $400.

You also should update your details under user cp to include your location and vehicle details. Makes it easier to answer questions, if we know your trim level and what country you live in.

Can someone explain why anyone would want that much light at their feet? I have the interior accent lighting package in my Mustang and had it in our Edge. In both cases, I had to use electrical tape to cover up the footwell LEDs because having that much light there was annoying and actually detrimental to night vision when away from the lights of the city.

Yes, I know they could be turned off but I like the cupholder lights to avoid fumbling with a drink. I also know that I could use red light to mitigate the night vision issue but then it wouldn't match the rest of the interior - Ford likes ice blue rather than red dash lighting. But the question remains... why do you want to look at your feet at night?

The more interesting question would be:

"Why are you using your cell phone while doing 65 mph?" :D

Anyway, I guess the footwell lighting is purely aesthetics and brings no real value.

I had the food well light in my Touareg, and I had exactly the same problem, too much scatter light distracted in driving. I turned it down as much as possible!
I would appreciate some light at the cupholders. Interestingly, our 2014 Kia Sportage Ex has light around the edges of the cupholders, our 2014 Sorento SX-L has no light there. Does one need to understand Kia's thoughts about what is luxury and what not?

Certainly I can understand the need for courtesy lights illuminating the foot wells for entry and exit. That's an entirely different thing from "accent" or "mood" lighting that continues to light that area when you are driving. Especially in the country where it's very dark, it's foolish to increase the interior lighting levels and ruin your night vision. The interior lighting (including the dash instrumentation) should be as dim as possible. And as I asked before, why would anyone need to see their feet while driving? Afraid you might hit the gas instead of the brake?
