2nd to 3rd gear shift a "jolting" exoerience

In the morning, back out of the driveway, start forward ...1st to 2nd gear shift nice and smooth, then "bam" the shift from 2nd to 3rd is a jolt. It feels like it is "winding up" and then releasing abruptly. It only happens that one time each day. After that, all shifts are smooth as silk. I'm heading over to KIA tomorrow for scheduled service, and see what they have to say about this, or if there is a TSB for this problem. Anyone else have this experience? If so, how was it resolved?

I experienced a similar thing. I actually posted it here in another thread. I was going 70kph then had to slow down, then when I jumped on the gas, i heard a soft "thud" then the engine hesitated before shifting up.

I knew the shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear is not-so-smooth even when driving normally, but this really is news to me.

I'm having an appointment tomorrow at my nearby dealership to sort things out.

Will post for updates.

I purchased my KIA 3.5 Sorento V6 AWD and I started to have this gear jerking after the first Kms5000 only. The dealer in Kuwait could do nothing about the problem but resetting the computer. It failed to solve the jerking from 2nd to 3rd. I still have the problem. Please help if any body had it solved. Thank you.

Hmmm. That is frustrating. The fact the reset worked for a few days suggest to me that it might be more of a software issue or maybe even a faulty sensor. But what is weirder is that it only does it in the morning...suggesting maybe it is a fluid level issue (as fluid gets hot it expands so it doesn't exhibit the same problem).

I did do some Google'ing and it appears to be a VERY common problem for a lot of owners--everything from VW drivers, MB owners, etc. And most of these owners have been told by their dealers that this is normal function. Take a look here for example:

VWVortex.com - Automatic Transmission slips when cold
http://www.rav4world.com/forums/99-4-3-mechanical/77639-jerky-transmission-when-starting-cold.html
http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/20...ransmission-jerks-while-shifting-1st-2nd.html

Just to rule out that mechanical end is ok...did your dealer check transmission fluid level (not too low or too high) and line pressure? Was there any discoloration in the fluid? They may say that they can't check fluid level as the transmission unit is a lifetime or "sealed" unit. But you may still want to check on this. The transmission in my BMW is considered "sealed" but I have had my independent mechanic flush the system using vacuum system every 90,000 km. Just a couple thoughts.

Good luck.
