Default 2013 Sorento - Rough Idle

I just purchased a 2013 Sorento. I noticed when I am stopped at lights the RPMs go down, it idles rough and the truck shakes a bit. It's more noticeable when the AC is running. If i take it out of drive the shaking stops. The dealer told me this is normal and is due to the GDI engine and the gas saving features. Anyone else notice this?

I think it's the GDI feature. Mine reminds me a little of my '05 Jetta diesel at idle. Outside it even sounds a little like it. I assume it's the high pressure injectors that a direct injection require.

When I was shopping for ours, I did think the GDI idled a bit rough. I was in the market for a V6 though...which purrrs like a kitten at idle.

Did you have Eco mode on or off? Eco would make it run rougher at idle from my experience with other vehicles with this feature. On idle try deactivating Eco. The rpms should climb marginally and it will run smoother.

i don't know if its different on a 2013 but on the 2012 the ECO button has no impact on engine rpm its a light that comes on when the driver has reached optimum fuel efficiency see page 4-54 of your owners manual it does nothing more then that but maybe the Canadian models are different than ours.

Why would a fuel saver mode have it idling rough? Cutting fuel injector activation time should reduce RPMs, but should not unbalance the timing between pistons. Does anyone have a good mechanical explanation for what is occurring here?

The sorento does not actually have a mode that is a fuel saving one. The eco light is just when you drive optimally that saves gas. By turning it off or on does not make a difference per se. The eco light just lets you know that you are not driving fast and more like a grandpa (me) hehe.

hmm... i'm on a 2013 as well, but i don't notice what a few of you are saying about the idling being rough

it's very soft to like nothing, maybe because i came from an old car with very rough idle? LOL

the first 2 weeks driving the Sorento 2013, i always though the car was Off, as i can't feel the vibrations, but then you look at the dash, and everything is lit up, so it's fine.

It's an odd sensation for me, since i'm used to feeling the car revs when idling or going up/down gears

even when i drive the Sorento in semi-"manual" mode i can't get the feel of the engine revs, everything is too soft and quiet in this SUV
