Default Using an Android phone (versus Apple)

Hi All,

For my phone and main music/podcast player,I have an HTC Thunderbolt.

While I have had no problem with the blue tooth connection, I would like to somehow mimic the functionality available on the gps screen display, especially while driving.

I like that when an iOS device is connected, you can use the screen and menu buttons on the steering wheel. It is much more efficient (and safe) than trying to grab my phone and make changes.

Does anyone know of anything we could do as Android users to utilize this functionality? I know the other option is getting an iPod, but I don't really want to carry around another device.

Current devices: HTC Thunderbolt, iPad (32gb), iPad2 (16gb), iPad3 (32gb) when released, HP Touchpad (16gb) running webOS, HP Touchpad (32gb) running webOS and ICS Cyanogenmod9.
(I like the technologies)

Thanks!

I don't really think this is an option with the non-iWhatever devices. If you use Bluetooth streaming (and just use USB for charging) then you get some basic controls "Prev/Next/Play/Pause", I think.

Let me know if you make any progress doxcyguy617, trying to figure out how to be able to integrate my Droid Charge beyond just charging it, bluetooth and headphone jack. I would rather have an extended monitor and amp in the dash for my phone than what I have with the Premium package. :-)

I absolutely will. I did try this in one of my cup holders, and I like it, but I find I fidget with it too much while driving.

I have a feeling that an iPod will most likely be in my future if I want the convenience of using the screen, and the inconvenience of carrying another device.

I know there are a few on this forum that work at Kia. Anyone know of any plans to update the nav/gps software for android? If it hasn't already, android will have the majority of the mobile OS market just due to the sheer number of phones that each US carrier has. Kia centered their media integration strategy off of the popularity of iDevices from a few years ago. The UVO stuff is from Microsoft. Logic would dictate that Android should be next. Also, because of the sheer number of Android manufacturers, there is no continuity in docking or communication protocol...yet.

If someone could distribute an Android to iSomething adapter, they might get some business. Otherwise if you could get an Android phone to simulate an iCrap device over Bluetooth, you might be in business.

I have an Android phone but in the port have a USB stick with WMA files. I had to disable sreaming as when selecting the USB device it kept on syncing the phone. I disabled BT sreaming and all is well...............
