Default Smart Key Tailgate Unlock

I'm the proud owner of a new SWP 2012 Sorento EX V6 Lux. I have a quick question regarding the tailgate release.

My Sorento is equipped with Smart Key, and in the manual it says that:

"If you are within 0.7-1 m from the outside tailgate handle, with your smart key in possession, the tailgate will unlock and open when you press the tailgate handle switch."

My question is this: do you need to push the tailgate button twice? On mine, I have to push it once to unlock, and then push it again to actually be able to pull open the tailgate. From the wording in the manual, I'm assuming I should just walk up and push and open the tailgate in one motion/button press.

Can you let me know how this is working for you?

Also, I'm wondering what the tailgate button does on the smart key? On mine, pushing or holding it doesn't seem to do anything...

Most times I am able to do it with one push of the tailgate button. Sometimes it does take two tries.

If you walk up to the tailgate, with the smart key in your possession, you should be able to pull the switch and open the tailgate in one motion. In other words, just hold pressure on the switch.

The tailgate button on the transmitter is to unlock the tailgate only, say, for someone else to open it. If you unlock it, they can walk up and open it without having the transmitter. It is only good for one open/close, as it will re-lock when closed. It will also re-lock after 30 seconds if it is not opened.

One push only. The reason you have to push twice maybe that at the first time you may not be close enough. When you close the tailgate it automatically locks itself. (Indicated by the blinking of signal lights).

By pushing the tailgate button on the smart key you can unlock the tailgate from a distance so that someone else can open it as spongebob indicated.

Hope this help and welcome to the forum.

Just walk up and hold the tailgate button on the tailgate and it should just open. If no key is present and the car is already unlocked the tailgate should also open with just the tailgate release.

The tailgate only locks and the lights flash if the vehicle was already locked.

Thanks for clarifying guys.

I will call the dealer, since mine "sometimes" opens in one motion. Most of the time I have to push once to unlock (I can hear it click), and then push again and lift to open. This works whether the car is locked or unlocked. I have yet to figure out a discernible pattern for when it opens in one click...
