Default Oil light going on...2012 Sorento is one month old.

Hi Everyone,

Just bought an Ex V6 a month ago, and my oil light is going on when I slow down at a light, or come to a complete stop. Called Kia, and said to bring it in. Being such a new vehicle, was surprised something already went off. OK, things happen, but what I was surprised about, is that I have to get a rental vehicle and pay for it myself...don't know when I am getting mine back. Anybody else have an issue with Kia of this sort? Just having a bad taste in my mouth so soon.

sorry to hear of your problem but Kia is not responsible to give you a rental per the warranty but i would suggest you talk to the general manger and plead your case if this is the dealership you bought the car from and see what he has to say.

For the first time you have a problem and in turn drop your Kia at the dealership, no, you are not going to get a free loaner. If the car is going to held overnight or longer, then ask the service manager for a loaner and they should give you one.

This sounds like a faulty oil pressure switch. From experience with this issue on my Jeep Grand Cherokee it takes all of 30 mins to a hour to replace (just from the awkwardness of where it was on my Jeep) so if they are telling you it will take an overnight visit in the service bay I would call BS, assuming the part was easy to obtain.

Correct people forget all too often that things yes do happen. But it is a fact of life and not an excuse thou. Then they as well forget they are not OWED a rental or loaner car so thier life be be made totally hassle free for a issue that does not put the car VOR (vech off road). As such they do not owe you a car so you can get to work and be convenent to you. YOU can get to work if that is your more important goal. Not getting it fixed and leave it there to do so. Or make plan to be picked up another day and get to work. Or sit and wait for them to look at it a bit then make the call to leave with it or rent a car or call to get picked up (if YOU do not want to drive it) if they do not put it VOR another day too. But jetech is wrong in so much as they can and will give you one if the VOR is the plan after you get there or before you drop it. And they can and will give you a loaner/rental/sales mens demo for the day to do so if you ask nicely. Or if you plead your case as they say. After all, all you really need is a CAR to GET TO WORK RIGHT? not joy riding around NYC for the day. OR do you think asking for that is fair. If that is your goal PAY for one then as you should. KIA will not. Fair is fair right?

Wow, this news sucks for us Kia owners. We have been driving a 1999 Ford windstar for the last 13 yrs and everytime we ever took it into the ford dealer to get fixed we always got a free loaner. Kia must be different?

2012 Snow White Pearl Kia Sorento SX, 10YR/200,000KM Ext Warranty, 3M film, undercoated, P21S Carnauba Waxed, Pro Guard int protected, Weathertech Mats, Husky Cargo Liner, Compustar Remote Starter/Alarm 2 Way RF-P2W901-SS with Cell-Phone Drone App.

Just had the exacte same thing happen this week (3 months old 2012 EX V6 AWD, 2200km).
Called my dealer and they said that it most likely was the pressure switch. They initially gave me an appointment the same day to change it but they called back saying that they were back-ordered on presure switches and cancelled. They said it was ok to drive it as long as the oil level was good (and it is). I was however unsatisfied being told it was ok to drive with the idiot light coming on/off like that. I called another dealer who pretty much told me the same thing and that they also had 80 pressure switches back-ordered (!). They however told me to bring her in to make sure it wasn't an actual oil pressure problem, which I did. They didn't find anything wrong and told me to carry on while we wait for the pressure switches to come in.
Ironically, the oil light hasn't come on again since I left home for the dealer 4 days ago...

I think it depends on the dealership unless you have a platinum warranty where they must provide you a loaner. I just did a service survey from hyundai ( Kia's parent ) and one of the questions was if they offered me a loaner car during the 3 days they had my Santa Fe, they did not and I made sure I told them about it!

I have been following this post because I am about to buy a 2012 Sorento and leaning towards the 3.5 V6. I did not like the rough idle of the I4's and found the 3.5 to be similar to the 3.3 Lambda engine in my 07 Santa Fe. I have been holding off and a little concerned now after seeing a few complaints pertaining to the oil light, but so far the sensor switch seems to be the culprit with most ??? the oil filter set up can be tricky with the Lambda and even more so on the 3.5 from what I see. when I did my first oil change on the 3.3 I did not wrench down the filter cap enough ( maybe shy a 1/4 turn ). I did not know until the first cold morning when the o-ring shrunk a bit and my engine took an oil bath on start up, learned my lesson that day while cleaning oil off everything in the engine bay. But I NEVER had an oil light stay on for more than a second or 2 ???
