Even though the system seems the same between my old 2011 Sonata and my 2012 SX, the whole congestion ahead thing with SiriusXM traffic worked differently in my Sonata. In that vehicle when the congestion wearing popped up, it offered you to detour, the SX dies not. It also offered you to view traffic conditions along your route if you were following one. The SX dies not.

interesting. Mine's v_777 4.04.15
Anyone know what the version # means? Also I noticed the new maps require an 8gb thumb drive. My TomTom has a total memory of 2gb. '12 EX GDI w/prem

Default Kia GPS is a major Rip-Off

The GPS in my 2011 Sorento is a major disappointment.
The dealer said there would be updates available -
- BUT NEVER TOLD ME THEY COST NEARLY $200 A YEAR !
Streets over five years old are not on the maps.
THE QUALITY OF THE GUIDANCE IS VERY POOR.
The guidance routinely steers me into major traffic jams.
And, It frequently takes me on long circuitous routes;
It ignores obvious short cuts.
The extra cost of this accessory is a major Rip-Off.

That has not been my experience. I've been satisfied with the functionality. Only very new streets in my area are missing....although it was an expensive addition and the map updates are way overpriced.

Where are you located?

I still would like to know if the operating system gets updated along with road maps when you spring for the update.

Steve,
The OS does get updates with the maps. I had an update on my old system (before they replaced the entire unit) and it made some changes to the OS. At this point, however, IMHO, I would wait for the next release as it can't be that far away. Then you should figure out a way to uncouple it and send it to all of us.

I am not overly thrilled with it, but it does the job. I do much prefer the gps function on my android phone versus the Kia. It would be awesome if we could select the gps provider we wanted, I would go google all the way.

Thumbs down 2013 KIA Sorento - GPS

I bought my 2013 KIA Sorento SX (w/ 6-cyl) in October 2012. I'm impressed with the vehicle, but the GPS is the worst I've ever seen! The version that came with my 2013 model is 4.04.15. I think it should have been a newer version, but even though a newer version is available in other KIA autos, it is not for the 2013 Sorento.

The map system is of very poor design. The roads look like they were drawn with a fountain pen. The POIs are very old. I looked for a Chair King while I was in Austin, Texas yesterday. I know there are three outlets in Austin, and they've been there over 3 years. However, my GPS showed the nearest one over 176 miles away!

I hate this GPS system!
