Question 2011 EX starting problems

On Friday 9/23 we had a starting problems with our 2011 EX 3.5l Sorento. tried my smart key with no success. Then my wife's smart key with the same result. Had both smart keys with me and tried a third time, the car started. I went to dealer that same day and he checked the system computer and said the stored code b1613 indicates a starting problem but from a much earlier timeframe. They started the car several times with no problems and want me to reschedule a service call where they will pull the dash apart to check connections to the starting module this will take at least 3-4 hours. I've driven the vehicle all weekend with no issues. Should i just wait to see if problem reoccurs or risk having other rattles or electrical problems from having the dash disassembled???

I would wait. I have not tried this but apparently if you hold the starter button without the brake being depressed for 15 seconds, it will start. It is an override.

Same thing happened to me this weekend and the dealer said it was the brake sensor switch not in the dash. I guess they have had a lot of these 2011 Exs not starting with the push button problems lately. Also the mechanic told me they have had no returns on this repair for failure to start. By the way the hold your start button for 15 seconds as an emergency start action is correct and I have used it. Hope this helps.

Angry starting problem reoccurs

Are more people finding the smart-key brake light issue is the cause for the no start in the 2011 EX 3.5l. Any info about a recall??

There is a recall/TSB about a connector that might not be fully snapped into place. The TSB states:

"In some 2011MY Sorento vehicles with 2.4l engine produced from october 23, 2009
through December 14, 2009, and 2011MY Sorento vehicles with 3.5l engine produced
from october 23, 2009 through January 21, 2010 an EMS connector may not have
been properly snapped into place"

There is a sticky in the forum with more details. Not sure it applies to you but it's something else you can have the dealer check. This would seem like it could cause some weird electrical issues at different times. The sticky is 2011 Sorento ecm connector Voluntary sevice campaign
