vehicles may experience a HVAC control head lock-up that prevents the air conditioning

working on, verify ROM ID using the tables in this TSB.

Funny, (maybe not) but we had this happen to our '12 LX a few days after we bought it. Yes, my wife was driving the car and it was one of the hottest days (over 100) and the fan would blow air, but nothing else could be controlled. The fan speed was the only thing we could change. The air temp out the dash vents was H-O-T! The controls were not redirecting the air to the defrost or floor vents. A/C button would not activate.

I called the dealer and spoke to the technician and he suggested disconnecting the battery for at least 5 minutes to reset the computer. He gave us the option of taking the car in and they could reset it (in a similar fashion). I disconnected it for 10 minutes (wanted to be double-sure!) and the issue seemed to be resolved.

The salesman said the issue was probably that the computers of all these cars need to be reset after they arrive at the dealership. Our car must not have been reset.

Now, the question (if you're still reading and still awake)... Do I just take the car in and have the TSB performed on my car?

Thank you!
Larry

Yes...you can. Or,you could wait if it's working well now.I think KIA is really doing a fine job of acting responsibly, and, to an extent, quickly on these problems.

i had this happen with my AC the day after i bought it (couple of weeks ago). they reset it and has been fine since. i'm wondering if they applied the latest flash.

also, i've noticed when watching my mpg avg that the AC seems to influence it in funny ways. for example, the mpg will improve a bit when on recycle/max vs normal - which is counter intuitive. also, sometimes when cruising and mpg seems very low (20ish) i'll switch the compressor to recycle, wait a few seconds, then back to normal and the mpg will jump up about 4 mpg.

finally, i've also notice the ac will occasionally increase and decrease (sounds like switching back and forth from max to normal) but i'm not changing anything and it's the manual version, so wouldn't think it would do this.

new logic for the AC sounds like a good idea.

Mapax....
When slowing down, almost to a stop, my fan sounds like it speeds up as if I'd turned it from 3 to 4... or put it on recirculate. (and I have done nothing) I've noticed this happens on 2 other Sorento's so it's not just yours or mine.. I think it's the way it is. Not sure what this is supposed to accomplish... but it is odd to me. Everyone asks about it when riding with me.

Interesting observations about the mpg readout. I will look at that also. I'll put this TSB on the list with the engine start thud... but it doesn't sound like these issues are getting specifically addressed with this TSB.. but worth a shot.
