Default 2012 Sorento SX Rear-View Mirror

HI,

I purchased a 2012 Kia Sorento FWD with Premium Package (Sunroof) tonight, and on the way home I noticed that the rear-view mirror had no compass. It does have Homelink and it seems to be an auto-dimming mirror, but I donít think it has compass. I went on the Kia web site, and it seems that the auto-dimming mirror with Homelink and compass is not an optional accessory for 2012 Kia Sorento SX. It is listed as an optional accessory for all other 2012 Kia Sorento trim levels, though. The standard equipment for the 2012 Kia Sorento SX is an auto-dimming mirror with Homelink.

Does this mean that the Kia Sorento auto-dimming rear-view mirror with Homelink and compass cannot be installed on the 2012 Kia Sorento SX? Is compass displayed somewhere in the Navigation on the Sorento SX? I donít get it why SX is singled out for not having a compass as an option!

Well we have no idea where you are located..........

The compass shows in the NAV display on my 2012 Sportage EX. I would think the Sorento is the same....

A compass/homelink/dimming mirror s/b just a swap for the existing on except for tapping power for the compass from the homelink supply at the mirror.

Mods: SX dual exhaust, 4,750K low, high and fogs, LEDs (license, interior lights, cupholders); Badges, Sport Pedals, Husky liners/cargo tray, Rear Mudflaps, Cupholder LEDs, Chrome headlight, sills, pillars, Sorento wheels; Euro side steps, Fiamm horns, Wheelskin.

I miss my compass. I had nav and the Homelink/auto dimming mirror with compass in my 2011 Sonata. Not sure why it not on the Sorento.

$200 delivered on EBAY for a KIA, much less for a generic....

Is it difficult to install it? Have you done it?

Which Sorento do you have? The SX navigation system allows you to have two views Heading up and North up. If you look at the upper most icon on the left hand side you toggle between both of those options. If you use north up you will always know the right side of the screen is east, the left side is west and the bottom is south.

If you use the heading up setting just look at the little icon and it changes direction depending on your compass heading. Pretty straight forward but I agree it would be nice to have it in the mirror as a redundant feature since I don't always have my nav unit screen on.

10 minutes for the mirror, 5-10 minutes for the power....

Iíll try to change the ďheading upĒ to ďnorth upĒ and see what it looks like, but what I am after is knowing in which direction the front of my car is pointing. I donít think that either feature would give me that information, and I will have to figure out in my head which way I am facing judging where north is. Normally, this information is needed within a split second to know to turn left or right from a dead stop (because Navigation cannot orient you unless you start driving).

I spoke with the dealer last Friday and was told that to have the auto-dimming mirror with Homelink and compass installed would cost me more than $400, which is too steep a price for that. I was hoping that if they got to keep my current auto dimming mirror with Homelink but no Navigation, they would charge me around $200 for the mirror with compass, including labor.
