Default Check Engine Light - P200A code - intake manifold to be replaced

Just curious to see if anyone else with a 11 Sorrento LX 2.4 (2,300 miles) has had this issue. Dealer has ordered the parts and of course it is all covered under warranty.

This just happened to my sorento this week on Tuesday. I took it into my Kia dealership and it was the same code. It took them a few hours to fix it but they gave me a rental I was a little upset since I only have 1100 miles on mine and its one month old, but now its working perfect. Hope yours goes just as well

Last one I did only needed the VCMA, not the entire intake.

Thanks - they ordered the part, said it was ok to drive until the part gets in. I saw that someone in the forte forums had the same code, but not here. I am not going to worry, that is what the warranty is for.

It looks tomorrow I will be picking up a forte to go along with the sorento.

We had a similar issue on a 2011 Sportage 2.4L. The a piece of the VCMA was broken off in the intake, but the shaft in intake felt like it was sticling pretty bad on one side. We ended up replacing the intake as well, problem solved.

Kia techs- be on the lookout for a ECM upgrade for the Sorento 2.4L for DTC P200A. A GDS update was released that included a P200A DTC logic improvement. Not sure when the official TSB information will be released, probably this week.

Default Twice

TWICE this has happened. I went to purchase a 2011 Sorento. The dealership allowed me to take the car home for a few days because they were having issues with the systems to finalize deal. I did and put a few hundred mile on it and within those two days the check engine light came on with the P200 code. When I went back to finish paper work and the deal, I told them I did not want the car because a brand new car should not have check engine like coming on. So I purchased a 2012 instead. Within a thousand or so miles the check engine light came on with same p200 code. I took it in and they said it was a part that KIA was changing vendors so it would take a few weeks to get in. I had already did the research on the computer and found that KIA has had this problem in other models. I waited at least 2 months and they never called. I call a day or so ago and they told me the had the part in. I made an appointment took it in today. They did the computer upgrade the tech bulletin said do and said it was fixed. Never used the part that was order. I left got only 5 miles away and light back on same code. I took it back and they now have my car over the weekend. They called KIA and was told to replace the intake flap or something and that they had the part in stock. Then they called late this evening saying they had to order the intake runner and motor because that is what kia tech told them to do. It wont be in till Monday sometime. This is pissing me off because all they had to do the first time is listen to me that I had already done the research and that this was posted online about this issue.

I believe all dealerships and mechanic shops should use ALL resources to solve problems. The internet is a great valuable tool that should be used responsibly and could help in a great deal.

Now to wait till next week to see what else they are going to do to compensate me for time off I had to take and the complete inconvenience to me. I will give update when i get the car back. hopefully i wont have to post bad marks and the dealerships name on here.

The unfortunate reality is that Kia is paying the bill on this. That means the dealer has to follow the course of action set out by Kia. If a dealer just goes out on a tangent and replaces the part YOU wanted them to replace, whos to say it would have fixed it and they would have been on the hook for the part that DIDN'T fix it. The ECM upgrade probably changes the min. and max. values for the VCM so if they replaced the intake runner first, you very well would have been back with the same complaint. Ideally the dealer used all the resources available to them and followed the correct course for repair: ECM upgrade then part replace. Where the dealer failed was to drive the vehicle for TWO drive cycles to verify that the CEL didn't come back on. Whether Kia does anything for your lost time is up to them. It should be the dealer who makes things right so they keep you as a valued customer.

I do agree with you. They SHOULD have test drove it after the fix but they failed to do so. I also agree that the dealership should be the one to make things right.

I think that they should have never told me this has not happened to KIA before when it has and has been documented at many different dealerships and posted on this forum.

I am not saying they should have just did what i said. What i was referring is that if they looked online at different forums they could have seen this was an issue. That would have made the repair faster and i wouldn't have just waited two months for them to order a part that was never needed and never called to even let me know it was in. They could have did the computer upgrade and got to fixing the intake faster if they just did research more is what i believe.

It will get fixed on KIA's wallet so it is all good just real inconvenient.
