Just curious to see if anyone else with a 11 Sorrento LX 2.4 (2,300 miles) has had this issue. Dealer has ordered the parts and of course it is all covered under warranty.

This just happened to my sorento this week on Tuesday. I took it into my Kia dealership and it was the same code. It took them a few hours to fix it but they gave me a rental I was a little upset since I only have 1100 miles on mine and its one month old, but now its working perfect. Hope yours goes just as well

Thanks - they ordered the part, said it was ok to drive until the part gets in. I saw that someone in the forte forums had the same code, but not here. I am not going to worry, that is what the warranty is for.

It looks tomorrow I will be picking up a forte to go along with the sorento.

We had a similar issue on a 2011 Sportage 2.4L. The a piece of the VCMA was broken off in the intake, but the shaft in intake felt like it was sticling pretty bad on one side. We ended up replacing the intake as well, problem solved.

Kia techs- be on the lookout for a ECM upgrade for the Sorento 2.4L for DTC P200A. A GDS update was released that included a P200A DTC logic improvement. Not sure when the official TSB information will be released, probably this week.

Twice

TWICE this has happened. I went to purchase a 2011 Sorento. The dealership allowed me to take the car home for a few days because they were having issues with the systems to finalize deal. I did and put a few hundred mile on it and within those two days the check engine light came on with the P200 code. When I went back to finish paper work and the deal, I told them I did not want the car because a brand new car should not have check engine like coming on. So I purchased a 2012 instead. Within a thousand or so miles the check engine light came on with same p200 code. I took it in and they said it was a part that KIA was changing vendors so it would take a few weeks to get in. I had already did the research on the computer and found that KIA has had this problem in other models. I waited at least 2 months and they never called. I call a day or so ago and they told me the had the part in. I made an appointment took it in today. They did the computer upgrade the tech bulletin said do and said it was fixed. Never used the part that was order. I left got only 5 miles away and light back on same code. I took it back and they now have my car over the weekend. They called KIA and was told to replace the intake flap or something and that they had the part in stock. Then they called late this evening saying they had to order the intake runner and motor because that is what kia tech told them to do. It wont be in till Monday sometime. This is pissing me off because all they had to do the first time is listen to me that I had already done the research and that this was posted online about this issue.

I believe all dealerships and mechanic shops should use ALL resources to solve problems. The internet is a great valuable tool that should be used responsibly and could help in a great deal.

Now to wait till next week to see what else they are going to do to compensate me for time off I had to take and the complete inconvenience to me. I will give update when i get the car back. hopefully i wont have to post bad marks and the dealerships name on here.

The unfortunate reality is that Kia is paying the bill on this. That means the dealer has to follow the course of action set out by Kia. If a dealer just goes out on a tangent and replaces the part YOU wanted them to replace, whos to say it would have fixed it and they would have been on the hook for the part that DIDN'T fix it. The ECM upgrade probably changes the min. and max. values for the VCM so if they replaced the intake runner first, you very well would have been back with the same complaint. Ideally the dealer used all the resources available to them and followed the correct course for repair: ECM upgrade then part replace. Where the dealer failed was to drive the vehicle for TWO drive cycles to verify that the CEL didn't come back on. Whether Kia does anything for your lost time is up to them. It should be the dealer who makes things right so they keep you as a valued customer.

I do agree with you. They SHOULD have test drove it after the fix but they failed to do so. I also agree that the dealership should be the one to make things right.

I think that they should have never told me this has not happened to KIA before when it has and has been documented at many different dealerships and posted on this forum.

I am not saying they should have just did what i said. What i was referring is that if they looked online at different forums they could have seen this was an issue. That would have made the repair faster and i wouldn't have just waited two months for them to order a part that was never needed and never called to even let me know it was in. They could have did the computer upgrade and got to fixing the intake faster if they just did research more is what i believe.

It will get fixed on KIA's wallet so it is all good just real inconvenient.

I have a 2011 Sorento and the check engine light came on, but the car was running fine. The dealer said that the code was P200A and my intake manifold needs to be replaced. The cost is 725.00 to do it. WHAT A JOKE. The car has only been a problem since we bought it. I DO NOT RECCOMEND EVER BUYING A KIA.

I've experienced the same issue recently. Brought my 2011 Sorento in to Peters Kia in NH for an oil change and to check out the engine light. First they said it was a software update. Performed that and it came back on. Then they said it was a P200A code, needs a new intake runner and solenoid. $1,400!! to fix.It alos needed front brakes and fron struts. So my oil change turned into $3,000 workth of repairs. I'll be going elsewhere.

I just had my CEL come on in my 2011 Forte. Took it to Firestone across the street, as it needed to have it's inspection... They pulled the P200A code.. They said hope the dealer does not try to screw you as other have said it was not going to warrantied.. I called KIA told them I had only 56525 miles and they said it will be covered... Hell I bought this car only last July 2... This is the third trip to the dealer in a yr for issues.. First was a new strut+mount. Next was a pulley, now this.. I have had a KIA since 2006 and never really had any complaints.. This is something that can happen to anyone at anytime with any type of car..

This just happened to me. 2012 Sorento. Check engine light came on around 4 yrs 45k miles this past November. I bought myself an OBD reader for Christmas and pulled code P200A. I could not find anything on code except for these forum stories, so then went to Autozone and they did not know what the code was either.

After waiting a week for an appointment, brought in to Kia dealer. Dealer reset the code. I picked up car after service dept was closed, and as soon as I started car, check engine light was lit again.

After calls back to dealer's svc dept went unreturned, I reached out to svc dept manager and he got me an another appointment, this was about 4 weeks after 1st appt. I asked for a Saturday, but he said it would be best to do on weekday so they could call the Kia engineer. So I set up on Friday, and engineer diagnosed a new intake runner was needed. It arrived the next day and they installed it, however check engine light remained lit. I had to leave the car with them until Monday so they could call the engineer again. They called the engineer and fixed it on Monday. The issue was that when they installed the intake runner on Sat they never recalibrated and had to download a computer update to the car. Mechanic said that the flaps on one side of the intake were off the shaft and was causing the issue, and the sensor on the shaft is what needed to be recalibrated.

And don't take the feeling ONLY Kia's have this problem There are a number of MOPAR motors with the same type system and are having numerous reports of it acting up.Darned materials(most using plastic) ,PCV fume build up and hot motor temps, is what I believe to be the "culprit".

Same code on a 2012 sx with the 3.5. Pulled the intake and found the linkage broke and only working one side of the flaps. Mine is out of warranty so I am doing the repair myself. Anyone know the torque specs for the lower intake and upper air plenum?
