My Dealership's service department told me that they would not do it nor would they give any guidance on how to do it. They stated that I should not attempt it on my own because if something gets screwed up it will void my warranty. I would like to have DRL's, but I feel it's not worth the chance. In the meantime, if I want my lights on all the time I just leave the lights set to ON all the time and don't worry about it. My wife usually leaves it on auto and if we are traveling on two lane country roads we just turn it to ON. This is one rare instance that I wish our Federal Government would mandate that they be installed in all vehicles at the factory. Otherwise I want the Government out of my business.

There is another thread on here that discusses the DRL issue. After reading it and how ithe process was explained there, I attempted it. I went to Lowe's, bought a few feet of 18 gauge wire used a volt meter and did the install/ mod in about five minutes time.

This thread here makes it more confusing and difficult than the job really is. I took my car in for service and the tech said that grounding a wire should not impact or void anything. It would take two minutes to reverse if it becomes an issue but 2 months so far and nothing is going wrong.

Default DRL activation

Please note that the schematic there is for a Mustang, not a Sorento. I am not sure to which vehicle the picture depicts.

Default DRL activation

Scratch that last answer. I don't know why, but when I viewed it I thought it showed that for a Mustang. The next time I looked it was ok. Sorry.

Default DRL activation on a 2011 Australian Sorento

Hi Everyone,

I tried connecting the non-powered end of the DRL fuse to ground on my Aussie Diesel Sorento as stated in this thread but nothing happened. It did not make any difference. Can anyone help me what to check/do next to activate the DRLs?

Smile DRL's

Thanks for this site and all the information about the DRL's. New member here, just bought a 2013 Sorento on May 26th. The DRL information works fine on the 2013, I confirmed it today with a temporary jumper. The connector in question looks to be an AMP type, as soon as I find the part number I'll post it. Thanks again for all the information from everyone.

Just back from Afghanistan - got bored - couldn't find a pin to fit A6, so I did the "grounding the fuse" trick - worked like a charm - 18GA.

Default DLR Successfully Activated

I wanted daytime running lights for greated visibility during the day on my 2012 Sorento EX V6. Encouraged by others success in installing a terminal in the empty hole on the connector block and running to a ground, I began my search for a suitable terminal pin. I found some similar terminals on-line but all were too large. One problem being what to call it for searching purposes on-line. Next I tried all the auto parts stores in the area armed with the photo od the terminal pin. I found one at Auto Zone that looked about right, but ultimately it too was too large. Finally, I tried my Kia dealer parts dept. The gentleman was helpful and looked to see what he might have. We did find a terminal that might work when he brought out a box of parts left over from when the building was a Saturn dealership. He came up with a terminal with pigtail attached that looked small enough. Upshot is that it was small enough (tight fit, though) and when run to a ground point, voila, DLR! They work great. High beams at half power when car is on and the head lights are off (at the switch or on auto) and the DLR turns off when the headlights are on. I told the parts guy what I was attempting, his comment, "Cool". Bottom line, it works and some dealerships will work with you. Give them a shot.

I couldn't find a pin anywhere so I ended up going on ebay and bought a Kia Stock & Premium Radio Hardness KI-1004M. I took the big terminals off of this one and it fits...it is a bit loose (it has some play front to back) but it works fine.
