Mirror/wire installation instructions are at kgis.com, 2011 Sorento, Service Materials, Accesory Information, Body Electrical, EC Mirror Instl Guide.
Wiring Diagrams are at 2011 Sorento, Service materials, Service Info, ETM, Courtesy/Trunk Lights for 12 V Hot and ground, Sunroof for switched 12V.
I like the switched power for both the electro-mirror and Homelink. That way if the car is outside and locked, the garage doors cannot be opened if someone breaks your side window and tries the Homelink. Factory it will open doors w/o the car running.
I have installed these on Chryslers, Fords, and Toyotas. I always buy on EBAY.
Sorry to bring back this thread (and the long post) but I have a question. I purchased a 2011 Sorento LX back in April and the dealer added the Mirror w/ Homelink (not factory installed). I also purchased the 2011 Forte 5 door (ex) and had the dealer install the same mirror (EC w/ Homelink) - same dealer also installed (not factory).
Now what I just noticed is two different behaviors and I am not sure either is 100% correct - can anyone confirm the proper behavior of a EC - Homelink mirror with compass (OEM- KIA):
1. 2011 Sorento LX - Homelink ONLY works with keys in car and on ACC or Sorento running - which I believe is correct and I like (see njerald's comment about car being outside), HOWEVER, the EC part of the mirror and the compass is always on, keys in or OUT, and I am pretty sure that is not correct as this will eventually drain the battery. I can manually turn them off, but that is to ideal.
2. 2011 Forte 5-door EX - Homelink works with Keys in or out of the car - which I don't like (opposite of njerald's comment below), however the EC part and compass are off unless the keys are on ACC or car started - which I believe is correct.
I assume that if I combined the Homelink behavior of the Sorrento and the EC and Compass of the Forte - for both vehicles I would have two perfect systems - Homelink should only work with keys in ACC or car started and the compass/EC only on if keys in ACC or car started - Right?
I just want to confirm the proper behavior before I call the dealer, unfortunately he is an hour away from my house and this will take multiple trips.
Well - took a look at the instructions, and sure enough on the Sorento, the tech wired it wrong - and there are only two wires (plus the ground) - wow...... (moved them and everything is the way KIA wants it)
Now any tips on how to get it all on switched power, is it a matter of connecting both to the same wire (which one though)?
