I greatly appreciate the photos and helpful info here.

It sounds like building your own box is the way to go.... If anyone else builds a box, please post photos. If I do this, I certainly will. I have limited box-making skills so seeing what someone else did would certainly help.

Great thanks for the right up, thinking of doing this exact thing in the future.

this is good information. thank you for sharing. it sounds like a difficult job to get to the stock sub. what i was thinking of doing was adding a new amp (maybe under the driver seat), and connecting that to the stock subwoofer using the wiring coming out of the stock JBL amp (clip the speaker leads coming off the JBL and connect them to the new amp). i am sure the speaker leads for the sub can easily be identified using the wiring diagram for the JBL amp. the aftermarket amp i have doesn't even need a remote turn on lead, so the only new wires i would have to run would be the power and ground. does this sound feasible? i think as long as the stock Infinity sub isn't a total piece of crap, a little extra power would go a long way.

If the stock sub is anything like the one used in my 2013 Hyundai Veloster - it will not take an aftermarket sub as the stock sub is only rated for 20 RMS/40 Peak.

I put in a sub in my Sorento in the cargo area (no third row seat in mine) with a home made box and a separate amp.
