Exclamation Raw Gas Smell--Intermittent While Idling

Anybody else had an issue with a raw gas smell while idling? I cant find any obvious leak from the injectors..have not checked the carbon canister.

We notice the same thing when idling in traffic. When you have the front defroster on, it draws fresh air form outside. The filter in the glove compartment does'nt do to much to get rid of the smell.

This is more serious than just an annoying smell, I'd highly recommend bringing your vehicle in to your Kia Service center soon. We all know gasoline is highly volatile and the vapors are highly flammable, explosive and are not healthy to breath.

You could have a problem with your Evap. Control Canister, or a leak somewhere in the fuel system. Regardless, you should not be driving a vehicle if you smell obvious gasoline fumes in the cabin. The dealer will be able to test for and diagnose the problem quickly and easily.

And no, you shouldn't rely on your cabin dust filter to remove gasoline vapors, it was not designed to remove vapors and gasses, and this would just be masking an underlying problem that needs to be dealt with by your mechanic/Service shop.

Default Gas Smell

I have a 2010 Forte EX and live in HOT and HUMID Houston, TX I have had on ongoing issue with the gas smell whenever you turn the air to pull air from the outside. When I use max A/C there is no issue since it is recirculating the air already inside the cabin. I have taken it in three times, the first time the could not duplicate the problem and second they were able to duplicate the problem and their only solution was to switch out the gas, which did NOTHING to improve the problem. From reading on different Forums posted here a lot of people are having the same or similar issues. Mine seem to happen more often now or maybe it is just I have needed to pull more air from outside in like when trying to use the defrost which is hard to do on max A/C. The smell becomes so overwhelming it makes me ill. My dad suggested I call the dealership and mention the lemon law all that got me was the number to KIA customer service which I have not called yet. I guess dealerships no longer employee real mechanics that know how to find and fix a problem only techs that can hook the car up to a computer so the computer can say there is or is not a problem! Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?
Yep... find a different KIA dealership.
A 2010 Forte should NOT smell of raw gas....
Unlike the "older" cars where you could get a wif of gas from the "carburetor" you should not be smelling ANY gas fumes as they are "stored" in a carbon canister until being sucked into the engine and burned. Something is leaking gas and they need to find where it is. I have an 06 Spectra and you can not smell any fumes even under the hood.
Sometimes it takes going to another dealer to get a problem solved.
