Nice. I didn't know it had Piston Cooling

I can testify that the V6 is Very "competitive". Did many "Acceleration" tests with my friend who owns a Audi Q5 and in all cases, we held tow to tow.

That Engine is Smooth, powerfull and efficient!

Sounds like a great engine all-around...but I'm not sure why they're hyping-up the piston cooling jets, it's pretty standard technology - my 2008 Nissan Rogue 2.5 4-cylinder has this technology, and Nissan has had this design feature on most of its engines dating back to 1991!!! It is becoming standard with Asian manufacturers, not sure about NA and don't really care, you couldn't pay me to buy a Dodge/Chrysler powertrain!

Marketing is so interesting, you can brag about 20-year old technology as if it is new and cutting edge and most people will be very impressed if they aren't aware of the details and history!

Regardless of this detail, this appears to be a very impressive engine design overall, Kia.

Yes, the 3.5L is the only V6 engine available in the Sorento.

After 2500 miles I too am buying in on this sweet power house of a motor. I can't find much about it on the web so thanks for sharing. I have a hard time even hearing the motor run except when I mash the gas pedal and feel the thrust this motor provides to the tranny with AWD. I am impressed to date. Very pleasing on the acceleration and smoothness without burning a ton of fuel.

Those pics are a thing of beauty.
This engine has so much, 'get up & gone'.
Love it. A guy sat back in his Audi V8 and saw the beauty & power of this eng/car once...

Not that it makes a difference here in the 2011 Sorento (XM chassis) Forum we are in. But please lets not make generic statements as has been done in the last few posts in this thread. Better for all and no confusion. Some take things out of context at times. And to head things off before they become issues in here, as in past.

Yes MY2011 Sorento (XM) has only the LAMBDA II 3.5L as its GAS/PETROL V6 offering.

No MY2010 Sorentos were built in either BL/XM form. Prodate means little this one year for you. Just the mm/yyyy it was built for parts purpose if you need it. VIN Code means everything. 9=MY2009 (BL) B=MY2011 (XM) there is no A code on a Sorento built 2009-2011. If you find one call the police. AKA Stolen tampered with and RE-vined and paperworked by a stupid crook.

The MY2003-2009 Sorento (BL) line had the
SIGMA 3.5L as its GAS/PETROL V6 offering from 2003-2
LAMBDA 3.8L and then later 3.3L added as its GAS/PETROL V6 offerings 2006-2009

Greg does your Sedona have the 3.5 SIGMA? and your Amati the LAMBDA I think so. Or do you have TWO 3.8 LAMBDA's?

Default Yes I agree... Truth in advertizing thou

Yes I agree it is a very nice engine design as is the new TAU 4.6/5.0 V8. But for truth in advertizing purposes here goes. Most of us myself included towed with these things. So you decide from this. If you know about towing (or just plain carrying stuff and people) and what it takes to do it. Those of us that drove/drive Diesels did. HINT here:
High RPM's = LOW MPG
LOW RPM's = Better MPG
LOOK where the 217/260/228/248 is.
With out a dyno there is no way to tell you the full accurate truth of what 260/228/248 will be at 300RPM's. But you do the SIMPLE MATH. 1500-2000 RPMS is allot. Good luck useing the 6000-6300 stuff too.

SIGMA 3.5L V6 194HP @5500 217TQ @3000

LAMBDA 3.8L V6 262HP @6000 260TQ @4500
LAMBDA 3.3L V6 242HP @6000 228TQ @4500

LAMBDA II 3.5L V6 276HP @6300 248TQ @5000

There is a reason Ford POWERSTROKE was 6.9/7.4 and then now 6.0/6.5
There is a reason Dodge CUMMINS was 5.9 and now 6.2
There is a reason GM has the DURAMAX 6.0/6.5
And Isuzu and others use 3.0/3.9/4.5 Diesel V6's

And the FORD TRIDENT 8.0 V10 is MIA
And the GM VORTEX 7.4 V8 is MIA
And Dodge 8.0/8.2 V10 was MIA except for the VIPER which is now MIA in 2010.

I have two 2.4L Theta Engines and two 3.8L Lambda engines in my vehicles. I have had a 2002 Sedona and a 2005 Sorento as body-shop loaners, and I was really disappointed with the 3.5L Sigma engine. It is really rough beyond 4,000 RPM. Anyway, since the thread was pertaining to the LAMBDA 3.5L engine, I was assuming we were speaking of the current generation Sorento...since it is the only one that has been offered with the 3.5L Lambda. Also, I know everything there is to know about VIN decoding. In the Korean market, there was almost a full year of MY2010 Sorento sales (Vin code = A)
