Default Woah! Navigation is way overdue for map update!

Thanks to you guys pointing me to Kia Global Information System (KGIS), I was able to see that as of August 2010 the most up-to-date navigation map was version 3.07.06 ... because my Sorento SX was manufactured in September 2010, I was almost sure that it was up to date, but for kicks I checked it out... it wasn't even close! My version is 2.0X.XX!!!

So check your nav systems, folks! To check yours, click where it says "Setup," then tap "System Info." It'll bring up the cool graphic with all of the satellites and show you what version you are running. We're taking our Sorento into the dealer tomorrow to have it updated.

BTW -- the technical service bulletin number for this update is SA 060.

I'm a little disappointed in the nav. It seems to always takes longer routes and the 3 options are usually different then what my tom tom suggests. I thought I would not have to use tom tom any more but it is alot better on route planning. i do love the airplane ding right when your suppose to turn. I guess they dont contract it out to a major company for the map. A friend of mine has the same problem in his CRV, we compared some routes we travel alot and they where exactly the same in our vehicles, looks like the same route planning software. The tom tom route was quickest and the way we always drove it. It just looks retarded to use a tom tom with nav in the car.

Good luck on getting that update. If you read the bulletin it says the update is ONLY for unsold vehicles that are in dealer inventory. My SX was sitting on the dealer floor when the bulletin came out. It was in the showroom and was missed when they did the updates.
I asked to have mine updated at that dealer and 3 others. None of them will do it. I have since opened a case with Kia Corp and they have told me they are "making a decision" about it for the last month. I doubt I will get it.
Be aware that if you get a dealer to do the update, make sure they have a valid code for your installation on your particular vehicle. If they use the wrong code, it can erase the whole unit and lock it out. Kia corporate told me this. Just FYI.

Check your GPS setting... some have "only major highways" "shortest routes" and what a GPS considers a "major highway" can differ. I have 3 small GPS units and the routes they take can all be different for the same trip. Plus my son's smartphone will also differ. Also... there are few companies that make the GPS maps. There are places that sell them... but they are quite expensive and need all kinds of codes for specific year and make of car. It's highly competitive and they don't want them copied. I can't find the site that sold them but it was highly encrypted and you had to identify your exact GPS unit. You think they would want to be easier with smartphones doing the same thing for free (just data usage).

"Version 16(Aust) and Version 5(NZ) satellite navigation map updates now available. Please note the Navigation System that uses this disc does not support Speed and Red Light Camera alerts."
There is a reason to update your map... Red Light Camera Locations ! !
This one company is charging $300. You get back $100 for the USB stick they send you.
My SX has Sirus traffic. $3 a month but it's only for specific major roads. I see Green (moving) and RED (slow) dashes along side the roads where it's measured. It uses truck GPS sensors that send the truck movement to a collection center as well as other road data that is collected.

This site says there is no update, yet map 3.xx.xx is available. Other Hyundai updates are available, but must go to the dealer.

It's saying it takes a USB stick up to 150 min, the car must remain on.

Default GPS updates

I just checked my GPS and my version is 2.09.14 so what you are telling me my GPS has a new up date? I thought the dealers up date the GPS's when new versions come out.

Yes there is a newer version out but not yet available for purchase. Did you have one of the dealers that told you updates are free on your nav? They lied. Updates, when they are available, are around $250-$350.

Wow... you guys ain't gonna like this much but... I was able to talk my dealer into doing it for free, since I bought a Sorento that was manufactured after the TSB date (August 2010). I argued that the TSB (SA 060) should have been applied to the car before I bought it... the dealer didn't even put up a fight. My maps are now updated to 3.07.06.

Before you guys go up in arms about this....... I don't notice much of a difference in the nav. Still ain't all that great, to be honest. Finding restaurants or bars that I know to be at least 2 years old has still proven a daunting task. Pretty disappointing. Oh, well.

Good for you I have been to my own dealer plus 3 others here in DFW with no luck. I used the exact same argument too.
I might just take a trip down to SA and visit your dealer!
