Default What type of oil have the dealers been using for oil changes?

Going in for my first service tomorrow and wondering what type of oil and viscosity is used generally in the Sorento.

With my other car normally I buy full synthetic 5W30 myself and have someone change it.

I guess this will vary from dealer to dealer but I figured I'd check to see what others have experienced so far. Obviously not expecting full synthetic (unless I paid extra for it).

In the manual they state the following regarding viscosity:

Quote:
"For better fuel economy, it is recommended to use the engine oil of
a viscosity grade SAE 5W-20 (API SM / ILSAC GF-4). However, if
the engine oil is not available in your country, select the proper
engine oil using the engine oil viscosity chart."
I normally use 5W30 in other vehicles but I guess based on this will see if they can use 5W20.

P.S. Here in Canada we get cold winters so 10W30 wouldn't be a good option.

My dealer here has recommended Mobile 1 synthetic, which I used on my first oil change...so far so good. It is more expensive, but I think it's better in the long run

I'm in your area and was told by the dealer that they use bulk Petro Canada brand 5w20 oil.

I intend to have the dealer service my vehicle for now, so that's what will be in it.

Thanks jspeed, looks like they used bulk 5W20. Not thrilled with *bulk* oil but I don't know how much difference that really makes. At first the lady in service thought they used 5W30 but when I questioned it and pointed out what was listed in the manual the Service Manager said it was 5W20 for the 2011 Sorento. It's not specified on my service bill.

My first 2 services are free as I negotiated these at the time of purchase so I guess I'll go back for my second service and then decide what to do after that. Might get Costco to do it and go with full Synthetic 5W20.

An interesting note I was chatting with my salesman and he didn't even know about the new Sorento SX model. I guess they haven't gotten any in but I would have still expected him to know about it. Then again, he's not the sharpest...

LOL, mine didn't know anything about an SX model either, but to be fair it does not show one in the brochure or on the Canadian website.

Does anybody know if the SX is coming to Canada?

I think I'll switch to synthetic at the second oil change...I'm not sure if the dealer will do this or if I'll have to take it somewhere else or do it myself.

The one thing I read somewhere is that you should really use the Kia OEM oil filter as it has the correct o-ring in place and fits the best...I don't think there are too many aftermarket filters available for the '11 Sorento yet anyway, and I won't use Fram.
