Default Better hitch than Curt?

I've had it with this ($#**! Curt hitch. No matter what I do, I can't get enough clearance between the left exhaust tip and the hitch. When I've got passengers in it, the exhaust bangs against the hitch (I can see the paint scuffs on the hitch where it hits).

Other than the official Kia hitch, are there any other aftermarket hitches that fit better?

Anyone in the Denver/Boulder area want to buy a very lightly used Curt hitch for cheap?

Oh crap I don't want to hear this! I've got my new curt hitch in the box on my garage floor waiting to be installed this weekend...

Did you install the hitch yourself? Did you run into any problems during the install? If possible can you take a pic of how/where the exhaust tip is banging against the hitch?

Any info you can provide would be appreciated!

Default Hitch for SX

Anyone use the hidden hitch ? It looks like it goes UNDER the muffler tips.

Yes, I installed it myself - it's pretty easy to install yourself. I'm just not happy with the clearance of the exhaust tips and the hitch. I'll see if I can get a pic of it and post it tomorrow.

It does look that way. Anyone have that hitch and can confirm that it doesn't bang on the exhaust?

Default Pictures of exhaust

Here's a pic of the hitch. I cannot put my pinkie between the left tip and the hitch for an idea of how much space there is between them. I've already moved the entire hitch to the left as far as it'll go to increase the gap.

I also tried bending the hanger on the car by the rear bumper but didn't want to go too far. I almost think the two hangers at the front of the muffler have as much to do with the height as the rear one does.

Wow, I had the Curt hitch on my EX V6 and I had more clearance than that. No issues with passengers or loaded up going camping.

FYI, The Curt Hitch will NOT fit the new Sorento SX model without hitting the exhaust tips.

I installed the Curt hitch on our new Sorento LX 4i. It went in very easily and I had over an inch of clearance over the exhaust tips. Since the exhaust mounts go to the chassis and the hitch mounts to the chassis I fail to see how load considerations will affect the hitch to exhaust clearance.

The Hidden Hitch and the Draw-Tite hitch (made by the same company) both pass under the exhaust tips. That means the actual frame mount plates are longer (engineers translate that as weaker in side loading).

Good luck

You're right about that. Maybe it just seemed more pronounced when I had 4 people in the vehicle. Or maybe I was just noticing it more since it was embarrassing have that noise in a brand-new car (although it's not the car's fault at all).

About all I can think of to do to salvage this hitch is to remove the exhaust where it bolts together just ahead of the rear suspension. I could then remove the muffler from the car. Then I'd have the room and leverage to bend the 3 mounting pins on the muffler up a bit, which would in turn lower the muffler. I just can't get any leverage on these things while it's attached to the car.
