Question.. has anyone filled their tires with Nitrogen instead of reg air?
I been hearing around Vegas here that Nitrogen is great for the tiressince they really dont expand like normal air (aka expand in the heat/retreat in the cold). Asked a few of our Maint peeps at the airport (I work for a airline) and they all said that nitrogen would be great in a car tire (since thats what planes use) and very very rarely does the tire pressure change.
Going to check a little more around and see what more info i can get, but so far it points to yes get nitrogen put in em.
I think nitrogen is pretty standard at least here in Canada anyway on new tires. I know my new goodyear assurance tripletred tires were filled with nitrogen standard and it may be standard on the Sorento but not 100% sure. Useful here in Canada due to the major temperature swings in the seasons.
I believe they put a mixture of Nitrogen and Air in my Sorento's tires.
Yes it is called Atmosphere. Breathing air is 21 percent oxygen and 78 percent Nitrogen. The other 1 percent are trace gasses. Unless they are getting it straight out of a marked nitrogen bottle you are paying for something you can get free (with a purchase) at the corner gas station. I am not discounting any benefits of the nitrogen only the potential rip off of buying so called pure nitrogen.
I have worked as a tyre fitter and while you might get some benefits from nitrogen[ dry gas, less expansion and pressure rise due to heating at speed] I don't think it a huge lot better than cheap straight air in a normal car tyre.

Like I said I'm no tire expert, but I do know that my dealership added something to my Sorento's tires when I purchased it (did not have to pay for this service). As nstoolman1 says it may just be air-filled. I am going out to the dealership tomorrow to pick up my Sorento (it was having service done on it). I'll pick up a flyer on what they supposedly put into the tires. I'll report what they call it when I find out.
In Aus at least ,nitrogen filled tyres use red valve caps to identify them.

After doing some research I would have to agree with nstoolman1. As long as you don't have to pay to have nitrogen put into your tires than it probably isn't a bad thing. If you have to pay for this service then you should just go to the free air at the gas station.
