Default 2011 Sorento RPM increase turning start-up

I have an "11 Sorento EX I4 for a month now. I have noticed that maybe 4 times now when I turn on the engine with the PB start, that sometimes the tachometer shows the engine revs up to around 3-4K RPM (I can also hear the engine rev as well). This happens without me pushing on the accelerator.

I was curious if this has happened to anyone else with an EX I4?

Thanks.

Yep, Mine has done that too.. I can see maybe 1k or 2k for a cold start.. But 3 to 4k seems pretty high RPMs to me too. Not sure why they do that..

Every car does that when it is cold and freshly started up. I bet that if you drive a bit, turn it off, and then start it again in 5 mins it won't do it, cuz the engine is heated up and it doesn't need to rev in order to warm it up more quickly. My Mohave Sounds like a lawn mower every morning when i fire it up. Revs go up to 3K as well. Its normal. Sometimes the car even regulates the revs by itself and it goes like up down up down. Don't worry. Its not a problem with the car. All cars that we have owned by now, and not only Kias have done that.

3k seems to high to me.
Having several cars and none of them would go more than 2k. Period.

The newest (Rondo) in the coldest conditions we faced (-35 C, which is -31F) it revved no more than 2k. Most of the time it jumps to 1800-2000 (in cold) and goes down to 1500 after two seconds and then slowly (within seconds) to 1.2k or so...

3-4k is way too high. When engine is hot 4k is very high revs, not talking when cold.

BUT, in my car lights, A/C, blower off - all devices are off during start.

There is a slight chance when you start car in needs extra power to power A/C, lights, recharge battery... The last one takes several minutes though, but initially ECU gets signal that voltage is around 10V (in really cold).

Our Sorento I4 has recently started doing this and it's got me a little concerned. I know it's a problem and not normal because it only happens occaisionally.

Occaisionally when we start the car for the first time that day it will rev to 2500 and hang there for at good 3 to 4 seconds. This is way to high of an idle for initital startup or any time and most of the time it starts properly and revs to about 1500 and after 2 seconds is down to 1000 and dropping to 750 shortly thereafter.

I'm going to mention it at my next service visit in June, I was just curious in the meantime if anyone else with the 4 cylinder has experienced this?

Even in February-March time we bought our sorento, rpm didnt go up that high so I wonder.

We have a 2001 Dodge Caravan for the business and that has almost 200,000 km and revs up to 2-2.5 rpm cold start

just some info:

an engine should not rev up that high when it is started. should only go up to 2k max. when u cold start your engine your ECU is in closed loop which means it ignores the O2 sensors till a certin temp (not sure what temp) then goes in to open loop which then takes readings from the O2 sensor. thats why your engine's RPMs kind of does what it wants when u start your car. 3k to 4k is not good specially when all your oil is in the oil pan when your engine is spinning at 4k rpms, thats how you get a spun bearing.

Agreed, so do you have any guess why our Sorento is revving to 2500ish on initial startup? I was trying to think of the sensors that could be potentially faulty, but based on what you've said the o2 sensor can't be resonsible becuase it doesn't come into play until after a few minutes......ideas? I'll have it checked at my scheduled appointment in June unless it gets worse and I decide to go in earlier. Thanks.
