So, has anyone done this yet? My brake doesn't work very well so time for an adjustment. I know it isn't very difficult, I just haven't had the time to play with it yet. I did rotate my tires today and noticed that I'll need brake pads soon so I'll try to get the adjustment done then.
The parking brake can be adjusted by turning the star wheel located inside the rear drum/rotor, located under a rubber grummet. The parking brake uses shoes inside the drum , while the normal service brake uses the brake pads which squeezes the rotor for braking action.
the service manuel reads: "rotate the toothed wheel of adjuster with a screw driver untill the disc os not moving, then return it by 5 notches in the opposite direction."
There is also an adjusting nut at the parking brake cable equalizer, located under the car, which may be adjusted after the parking brake shoes have been adjusted .
Look at a disc rotor on its side. It's vaguely shaped like a top hat. The inside of this hat (it is actually called the rotor hat) is a handy drum brake. The parking brake is a drum brake that works inside this.
