Can I switch to 4x4 hi while driving?

According to the owners manual, I need to be in neutral to turn the knob to either 4x4 hi or low. (assume park would be ok too)

Just wondering if that's truly needed? Some cars can go to 4hi at least while on the fly.
Anyone know for certain? Don't want to see my xfer case in the rearview mirror!

I have the non TOD model.
I can switch to 4x4 hi while rolling. It has to be under 60 km/h or something like that.
4x4 low need to stop and neutral.

Here is what the manual says:

2Hi to 4HI
turn transfer knob from 2hi to 4hi at speed blow 50mph(80km/h)

No necessary to depress clutch pedal or put into neutral.

Perform operation while driving straight

OK, I give......TOD?? (guessing trans overdrive?) I don't have that feature either.

Torque on Demand. - TOD
It puts it in to 4wd automatically as required.
If your switch says 2wd, 4Hi and 4 Low, you dont have TOD.

I must admit out of mechanical sympathy for the parts concrned I tend to do it much slower than that - generally just rolling speed.

that was what the manual says, i also do not do it any faster than 30 km/h at the most.
Just depends if i am too excited and forget to engage 4wd or not, haha

Yep there is nothing worse than getting out on the beach or half way up a dirt climb and then - no forward motion.

The slower your speed, the better for the system. Ideally, you should be stopped when switching to 4x4 and back to 4x2.
