Default Odd noise coming from the rear

My 07 Sorento has developed an airy/whistling noise in the rear end under heavy acceleration. Anybody know what this might be?

Some people narrowed it down to wind noise caused by the position of the horizontal rails on the roof the car.

As for me, it was the Kumho tires causing the problem. Road noise that sounded like wind noise. Once i replaced the tires, no more noise.

Could also be ring & pinion bearing noise. Is it louder at highway speeds (air whistle) or more quiet (gears/bearings)? How about the frequency of the sound, does it increase right in line with wheel speed?
