Default Vacuum Leak

I have a check engine light that comes on. The mechanic says the code says Vac System leak. Any ideas? It seems like the light goes away when I fill the tank, but comes back after using a 1/4 tank or so. Could I have a small hole in the tank? How do you find a vacuum leak in the engine area?

Could be as simple as the gas cap.

As nstoolman1 said it could be a simple bad old (worn out pressure vent) gas cap or its sealing gasket. Or it could be another part of the VAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEM. But yes you have a system failure of some kind. Try putting the cap on slower and make sure it is well seated and clicks and see if the light comes and goes or stays off. Old caps tend to get touchy with how they are put on in time. Where as new caps do not care.
BTW is it the OEM NON LOCKING CAP with a teather? or is it a aftermarket LOCKING (key) CAP with no teather?

NOTE: OEM locking cap is not made by KIA and is really a aftermarket they bump up price on and sell to you just like the OEM wheel locks are not KIA but McGARD ones.
