Default crank position sensor

have an 06 sorento that died with a bad crank position sensor. ordered the part aftermarket, and was delightful to install. car cranked fine for test start. finished reassembly of front of engine and started car again and had a bad miss, cant remember codes right now, but one of the coils toasted, I mean actually smoked out. check for blown fuses or something going to ground saw nothing. have not disassembled car yet to check for potential pinched wire. strange thing is got a new coil and installed it today, as soon as neg terminal on battery was hooked up, coil heated up, did not start car just unplugged neg terminal. any guesses before we disassemble again? nothing else done to the car accept for changing the crank sensor and now the coil. vehicle has 89k miles.

Default help!

I'm trying to replace the crankshaft sensor in my 2006 Kia Sorento and I can't find where it is. Could you tell me?

Behind lower timing belt cover, crankshaft pulley area. You have to remove all accessory belts, alternator, bracket that holds accessory belts tensioners, A/C compressor and crankshaft pulley.
It's not pretty, so you need to reserve ~4-6 hours.
