Default 2006 Sorento Fuel Gauge Problem

My 2006 Sorento fuel gage show a different reading each time I turn the ignition on and the fuel level has not changed. I can fill the tank drive about 6 miles, park the car, return in a few minutes and start the car, then the gage reads 3/8 full, the next time it might read 7/8 full. Any ideas where the problem is, sending unit or gage in dash? Thanks for you help.

Sounds like a gauge sender issue. The resistance grid in the senders are known to wear through and will send false signal to gauge. Pretty easy to replace, but will need special tool to remove fuel pump retainer.

I think what Cdavis means is that you may need to fabricate a tool to take the sender unit pump and filter out of the tank ( its under the back seat RHS) Never heard of anyone on here buying an item ...perhaps they have big hammers !!! Then with the sender out of the tank but connected move the float to full..check half ..check and empty ..check ..also see if the float is punctured or the link wire to the snder track is ok . You can also check with an ohm meter ..move the float slowly F to E and see if reading changes progressivly .....let us know what you find and take pictures !!

Thanks folks for the replies. I thought it would be the sending unit in the tank. I'm leaving on a month long trip to Europe, so It will be May before I will have a chance to check things out, and I will take pictures and post. Again Many thanks for the replies.
