Default 2009 LX Oil Change

I am looking for any advice on doing my first oil and filter change on a 2009 Kia Sorento LX. One thing that I have noticed right off the bat is that it doesn't use a "traditional" oil filter. I have never installed this type of filter before. I haven't been underneath the engine yet....tyring to avoid laying on the cold snowy ground until I absolutely have to. Where is the filter? How hard is it to remove? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I assume that the drain plug shouldn't be hard to find and remove.......Is there a shield that has to be removed like on the newer Sportages? Recommended tools?.................
(Any recommendations for improving gas mileage? K&N air filter already installed.)

My 07 has a shield that you remove (12mm bolts) to get to the oil plug(17mm). Filter is a canister type on top and in the back of the engine. Make sure you replace both rubber seals (one small, one large) each time you change the filter. Make sure that the filter cover is screwed on good and tight or you will get oil leaks.Use synthetic oil 5w-20.Hope that helps

Here is a link discussing DIY oil change on a Hyundai/Kia Lambda V6 engine:

The specific example is with a Sonata, but the basic process is the same. Has good pictures of the engine cover and the filter change. You should be able to figure out if the bottom shield needs to be removed to access the drain plug on the Sorento once you are under the vehicle.

I've stayed with 5W-20 conventional, but I'm pretty religous about changing oil and filter every 3,750 miles.
