Default 4 wheel drive problem

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my Sorento '05 3.5litre. I have "Electric Shift Transfer" on it.

When put to 4Hi from 2Hi the front wheel does not engage.
Time to time (still being in 4Hi position) it switches automaticaly (I can see it on the controls display ) to 4Lo - I can also feel the wheels engage.

I had the vacuum pump replaced - as before the front wheels did not engage at all. It seems that the pump was not the problem

What could that be?

Could be Transfer Case Control Module. Has been suspect of failure before:

Try and check for vacuum leaks first. Also check wiring harness for possble shorts.

Marek,

Indeed I have. And I thought I fixed it.

I had a problem with the frn wheel drive - problem was supposed to be the vacuum pump. (several people in this forum told me that it could be the vacuum pump. so I put the car on the racks. took the pump out. and applied air from a small compressor. with this the front wheels were engaging (I could see them actualy turning)

SO I had the pump exchanged - however (although I can hear and actualy feel something engaging) I still do not have the front drive.

I had the pump replaced, I also replaced the pipe so that there are no leaks.

McTweety - you say that might be a TCCM. What would that result in? (as I say the pump is working and givin the pressure). Also where is it situated in the car?

If not TCCM might it be in the diff itself (having not been used for long - got stuck. if you use compressor with slightly higher pressure - drive switched in and works properly)

How to check the differential? (do I try to grease some external parts? internal work in an oil anyway. DO I try to switch in/off for several dozen of times to that gets released once?

regards

with out trying to figure out what your problem is this is what i do shortly before 4wd winter season

put part time 4wd 05 sorento in 4wd hi wait ten seconds move vehicle appx twenty feet or so stright ahead, put vehicle in park em-brake on DO not shut off engine

jack up one ft wheel off of ground (i use a floor jack under lower control arm)
try to rotate that wheel round and round, if it locks up after just rocking a few degrees you are in 4wd and the transfer case and ft axle are working fine

if the ft wheel rotates round and round either the transfer case did not switch over or the free running ft diff did not lock in

to see which one is not working rotate the front wheel as above and see if the ft drive shaft is turning

if the ft driveshaft is turning then the transfercase is the problem

if the ft driveshaft does not turn the ft diff is not engaging

this test doesn't apply to TOD system

note, the 4wd system ft wheel engagement pump gets its signal from the 4wd computer which is also dependent on proper operation the transfer case switch over motor position rotary wiper contacts (that is why there is so many wires at that motor assy) many american vehicles use the almost identical motor assy and the position indicator wiper contacts are problem matic

Default membrane of the differential actuator

Hello again,

I had actualy the diff taken out now. and I KNOW it is the membrane of the actuator. I actualy saw the hole (1cm cut)

I badly need the OE partnumber of the replacement part (of the smallest entity available as a spare part) although I cannot ask at our KIA service, I can bue it through them once I know the OE number

I have the car put to pieces now... Help needed from any of you who are licensed KIA mechanics or have the access to their data

regards

found a number on the internet (this is supposed to be the actuator) 51020-3E100

but (again as I am not fluent in the terminology) - will that be the "part with the membrane"?
