No, I think he is talking about a key with immobiliser chip. Different thing altogether. However, I was under the impression that, without the master key, the dealer should still be able to obtain the (master)*ID key code (password) using the kia diagnostic equipment and reprogramme a new key. (but I may be wrong - diesel models don't have the ID key system).
*NB Kia refer to what you (I think) call the 'master' as the ID Key. They refer to the keys that you use everyday as the 'master'. Confusing ain't it!
