Hi all,
what's the latest on sorento fuel filter replacement. I have a Kia shop manual that says do it every 60000 on my 04 sorento, but several dealers that I called say that they never service them unless there's trouble. They don't even want to do it. I know it's a little bit of a pain, removing the rear seat for access, but it's not that big a deal. Do the filters really not need changing or do the dealers not care if a partially clogged filter causes premature pump failure and a big payday for them. I've done tons or repairs and I'm thinking of just doing it myself. Any ideas out there? btw whats a quick way to check for correct tension on the PS,and AC drive belts
Thanks,
Steve
It's really not much of a real filter just a little bag covering the inlet. Myself when the fuel pump fails that when you get both a fuel pump and a new little bag of a filter.
With gas costing a bunch many run their tanks really low and then you pick up a lot of little things that cause a fuel pump to fail.
its not just a little bag at the bottom of the pump. you are thinking of the fuel pick up not the filter. the filter should be replaced every 30000 miles and it is a big black/white thing covering the pump. and you do not need to remove the rear seat it pulls up from the back and leans forward plenty of room for you to change the filter. it is easy and should only take 20 minutes to do
Here's the bottom line on the Sorento fuel filter deal. There is a serviceable canister type filter surrounding the fuel pump in the tank. There is plenty of room to access it from the back seat floor. It is not the kind of thing that you would want to tackle unless you are pretty experienced, only because you have to take the whole fuel pump assembly apart and there are many small clips, wire connectors, and a couple of O rings. A clumsy move could easily break a crucial small part and cause you a lot of grief. In spite of what the dealers say, it should be changed. I did mine at 60000 and when I cut it open it was filty and nearing the end of it's usefulness. If the dealer won't do it, find a good shop that will. The filter was about $30 and someone who knows what they are doing probably would spend an hour. I took longer because it was unfamiliar and I wanted to be extra cautious. Thanks to all especially Texkiatech, that kid knows his stuff. If anyone needs more details email me at morroccos@cox.net

I would love to replace just the filter, could you post a picture or a link to what it looks like. Online I found the entire assembly which I don't need and a few DIFFERENT pictures of the fuel filters - so need to be 100% sure I am buying the correct filter.
I could remove the assembly, remove the filter to see what it looks like but would have put all back and remove once again when the filter arrives.
Here's a pic of whats needed. Ebay $25 bucks. Replaced mine forgot about orings wouldn't start. Wasnt a huge deal but I would change it. Saw an increase in performance after changing. 2004 Kia Sorento EX 189,000 miles. Showed a couple pics of my old one.
I've purchased o-rings from a local hardware take old ones with you to match size. I eventually purchased a box of various metric sizes so I have them when I need them.
Looking for advice - our Sorento has 184K on the clock and I personally didn't change fuel filter on it since we got it with 75K on the clock. So, should I change fuel filter or should I go for the complete fuel pump at this point?
Thanks in advance.
As it says you live in an area where they use salt on the roads I would do a complete body inspection before doing either. It may be time to upgrade your ride. As you live in an area with bad weather I would do both depending on the condition of the drive train.
Gents,
After a quick search found http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...fuel_pump.html
Prices range from $189 to over $350, any idea on which to buy?
Or best to call Parts Geek and ask for a full entire fuel pump kit?
Thank you, but does not seem like an entire assembly, seems like some induvidual parts to be replaced. I believe I need the full kit more like # 311503E200DS.
The pump pump fuel float unit and filter are all that can be replaced that go bad.
If your worried about changing parts the unit will save you an hours time. Depends on your wallet.
Got it! That makes sense now. For me I would like to change out the entire package. Will call Geek Parts or other vendor just to make sure that I am buying the correct full kit.
Thank you rhandwor!
Vadim
