Thumbs down Repaint Sorento door handle $380

I was one week and a few days out of warranty so my Kia Service Dept. offered to repaint the peeling paint on my 03 Sorentos rear door handle for $380.

I went to PepBoys found a can of close matching paint for $6.00 masked off the handle and sprayed on two coats.

Wife gave it the inspection and said it's good to go.

Who says you really need a royal shafting from your Kia service Dept.

Good job, that's ridiculous what body shops or dealers charge. The dealer probably would have sent it to a body shop, but still way to much to pay.

It took about half and hour to get it masked off and maybe two minuets to spray the paint. And another two minuets to remove the masking.

If it worked for ya river then kewl. But I sorta agree with TEX. The price is wacko. Weather you go to dealer and or a body shop is up to you. I am not advocating anything here. But just for the record. Back in late 2005, SOMEONE took the 2003 Spectra LS out of the garage. And in doing so hit the side of it by the door opening. This took off the whole Electric RUBY RED/black pass side mirror unit. It was replaced and painted for $348.67. And took all of $45 and half an hour to do the reinstall job. It was out the door for $402?. So you can see that $380 to PAINT a OLD handle is insane.

Even if TEXKIATECH might be correct and my $6 dollar door handle paint job fades or peels after a Month or more. I bet I can repaint it a lot of times from that $6 can of paint before I need to spend $80 or $380 to have it look like a bodyshop did the painting.

Anyway Kias factory paint job on the door handle was peeling off and the wife kept pointing it out to me.

I have a 98 Nissian Maxima with the dark maroon Nissan calls it rosewood. Well it naver peeled or has faded I just wash it and polish it just like I did my Sorento.

The 03 Sorento does not have the paint quality the 98 Nissan has.

Well number one it's not such nice truck and number two if one looks at my paint job they can't see much difference from the crappy other Kia painted door handles. And with the money I saved doing it myself I can buy more 5.56 and .45 Ammo.

Like I said River if it works for ya great. yes $6 can of paint goes long way for sure. I was not commenting on that. I was on the wacko fact that you were told $380 to paint your old handle. When a whole new elec mirror in black (only way they came) then painted ruby red and taped off to keep black where it needs to be on mirror. All done off car to match car. And then reinstalled was $402 with labor? That was the wacko part of it all. Not the $6 fix you made. A brand new door handle should have been less then $380painted and installed. Very few things come color coded as replacements. And mnay that do will come in not in the color and need to be painted anyway. So the next time you need that charcaol grey glove box door and you order it that way. You might jsut get a tan one and need to paint grey form KIA.
