What do you mean by "acting up" ? I realize there's only so many things it can do, but I'd like to be aware of what's going on specifically.

reading between 1/2 and 1/4 when the tank is actually full (or less than one gallon from full) and when it is malfunctioning i can watch it slowly climb from 1/2 to almost full while driving appx 10 miles

you metioned sending unit, please elaborate. the kia dealer i bought my sorento from will never see my sorento again, nothing but problems. i don't think they are even qualified to answer phone let alone my questions...anyway my gauge drops quickly until about 1/2 tank then within a few mile will drop to empty and back up to 1/4 or 1/2. or i seem to be able to drive on a 1/4 tank for the same distance that it took to burn through the first 1/2 tank...could this be the sending unit in the tank, loose wire of gauge...tim

I second that. Take it into a garage you trust (haha, I know - but you do have a backup plan, right?) and have them look at that.
