I have a new '06 luxury package with the Torque On Demand(T.O.D.) four wheel drive system. It has a vibration at about 75 mph and I am wondering if this is due to the T.O.D. or something else. It has less than 1000 miles on it so yesterday was the first time I ever hit 75 mph. Any Ideas? I was thinking mabye it was just a balance issue on the tires but am not sure and live 1-1/2 hours from the dealership.

unlike the part time 4wd your ft drive shaft turns all the time (part time 4wd does not, non lx package)
so it could be either or both driveshafts or tires or transfer case or differental pinion angles just to name a few
i don't know if i have ever had my ex up to 75 mph, but i have no vibrations, but have other serious issues yet to be resolved
if you are mechanicly inclined i have a question for you and any others with 4wd. when you have your skid plates off grab the inner right half shaft joint (from the ft differental) and see how much verticle play there is in it, mine i can move up and down at least 1/8 of a inch and make it bang in doing so. this it would seem would cause a noise or vibration at some point ?
People have posted about having vibration at some speeds. They have had their constant velocity joint re-greased also the driveshafts checked for balance. I do not feel the TOD is causing this problem.
Let the fourm know how this problem works out for you.
A lot of people complain about this, myself included. It's still unclear what is causing it though. Some dealers rebalance or replace the driveline and this fixes it, but that's not the case for others. It doesn't bother me enough to worry about but it would if I spent more time at highway speeds. It does feel exactly like a tire is out of balance, but that hasn't been the case for most people.
My '04 was smooth and steady all the way to 115 mph until I had the 30,000 mile service and they rotated and balanced the tires, now I have some vibration at 75 mph. New tires are in the near future so I'm going to wait. But I would have your tires re-balanced at a good tire shop, maybe Goodyear or Firestone.
I had a '96 Dodge Neon Expresso that was VERY picky about tire balance, the machine at the shop had to be freshly calabriated before they balanced my tires, this was even a reccomendation from Dodge.
I'm not sure of everything off the top of my head, but it's in your manual. It's pretty inexpensive stuff like transmission fluid change, front and rear diff fluid change, timing belt inspection, oil change and filter, air filter. I think that's all, and I'm not sure what the cost is off the top of my head either.
$619.00 USD for the 30k mile service but I had skipped the 15k mile service which included injector service ($89.99 USD) so I had that done. Base price for 30k mile service was $489.00 and includes:
Replace engine oil & filter
Lubricate all doors, locks, hinges, and chassis
Replace manual transmission & differential fluids
Replace engine coolant & power flush
Replace air filter
Replace fuel filter & PCV filter
Replace anticorrosive battery terminal pads
Replace spark plugs (platinum plugs additional)
Adjust tire pressure
Adjust rear brakes
Adjust CO level (if applicable)
Adjust idle speed
Adjust timing
Adjust drive belts
Rotate & balance tires
Top engine decarbon
Automatic transmission flush
Check all fluid levels
Check belts
Check all lights
Check battery
Check brakes
Check air conditioner operation
Check plug wires & rotors
Check exhaust system
Check A/C system
Check ignition cap
Wow, there's a whole lot of stuff on that list that your car doesn't have. I hope you didn't get charged for it.
Fuel filter-non servicable (it's possible, but is designed for the life of the pump)
No anti-corrosion pads from the factory on the battery
Platinum plugs should be replaced at 60K miles, and it's a job on the Sorento
Rear brakes are disc, and not adjustable (parking brake maybe?)
Timing is automatic, no adjustment
Idle speed is automatic
No ignition cap to check
It's a package price and covers all KIA vehicles, there are a few Sorento specific things (rear differential). The list is kinda general, even if a car doesn't need a particular check/service, the price is the same.
I brought it in because the engine light came on and it wasn't running right, the valve in the fuel return canister had malfunctioned. So while I had it there I decided to have the service done, it's one of my company vehicles so I don't really pay for it anyway.
