I have a new '06 luxury package with the Torque On Demand(T.O.D.) four wheel drive system. It has a vibration at about 75 mph and I am wondering if this is due to the T.O.D. or something else. It has less than 1000 miles on it so yesterday was the first time I ever hit 75 mph. Any Ideas? I was thinking mabye it was just a balance issue on the tires but am not sure and live 1-1/2 hours from the dealership.

unlike the part time 4wd your ft drive shaft turns all the time (part time 4wd does not, non lx package)

so it could be either or both driveshafts or tires or transfer case or differental pinion angles just to name a few

i don't know if i have ever had my ex up to 75 mph, but i have no vibrations, but have other serious issues yet to be resolved

if you are mechanicly inclined i have a question for you and any others with 4wd. when you have your skid plates off grab the inner right half shaft joint (from the ft differental) and see how much verticle play there is in it, mine i can move up and down at least 1/8 of a inch and make it bang in doing so. this it would seem would cause a noise or vibration at some point ?

People have posted about having vibration at some speeds. They have had their constant velocity joint re-greased also the driveshafts checked for balance. I do not feel the TOD is causing this problem.
Let the fourm know how this problem works out for you.

Hi

Can't see how it could have anything to do with TOD, sounds like a common old wheel ballance issue to me.

Cheers

A lot of people complain about this, myself included. It's still unclear what is causing it though. Some dealers rebalance or replace the driveline and this fixes it, but that's not the case for others. It doesn't bother me enough to worry about but it would if I spent more time at highway speeds. It does feel exactly like a tire is out of balance, but that hasn't been the case for most people.

Mine is smooth at highway speeds. And you'rs should be also. I would not give up getting something done about this problem.

My '04 was smooth and steady all the way to 115 mph until I had the 30,000 mile service and they rotated and balanced the tires, now I have some vibration at 75 mph. New tires are in the near future so I'm going to wait. But I would have your tires re-balanced at a good tire shop, maybe Goodyear or Firestone.

I had a '96 Dodge Neon Expresso that was VERY picky about tire balance, the machine at the shop had to be freshly calabriated before they balanced my tires, this was even a reccomendation from Dodge.

/edit: My '04 is 2WD so no TOD for me.

What all is included in the Kia 30K service?

I looking on Kia, but couldn't get much information. Also, do you know what it costs?

Thanks,
Ryan

I'm not sure of everything off the top of my head, but it's in your manual. It's pretty inexpensive stuff like transmission fluid change, front and rear diff fluid change, timing belt inspection, oil change and filter, air filter. I think that's all, and I'm not sure what the cost is off the top of my head either.
