Changing out the struts & shocks on a '05

My son has a 05' 2wd EX model Sorento. We recently had the 3 u-joints replaced and thanks to help from members of this forum the repair went very smoothly and I was able to save some money and get just the right parts.

Now our mechanic is suggesting we're getting close to the time we should change out the front struts and rear shocks. The vehicle has 140K on it and I'm sure it still has the original struts & shocks still on it.

There is no current problem with the suspension, no leaks or hard or squishy struts etc... our mechanic recommends KYB's and quoted me $1,150.00 to change out all four corners. He said there are cheaper parts but only by a few $10s of dollars.

What do you guys think? Should we change them over now or wait till there's an actual issue? and what do you think of that price?

Any other brands you recommend we might look at...?

Thanks in advance to all who answer.

And the labour cost is how much of that? I thought KYBs would run about $100 per corner, but I may be wrong.

When I had a garage I had an air powered strut compressor. A deep socket and impact wrench will pull the nut. If rusted as your throwing away the old strut a pair of big channel locks will hold the shaft while the impact with deep impact socket will pull the nut.
The spring maintains the level as you can can compress the piston by hand.
