Need Help Finding 04 Sorento EGR Valve

Hi :) I've got a 2004 Sorento EX 3.5L V6 [USA Spec], and I'm looking for the EGR Valve. I read in some threads that the 03 doesn't have one, but I'm not sure about the 2004.

If mine doesn't, in fact, have one - then, will someone kindly explain where I need to look if my vehicle is exhibiting the same symptoms of a sticky EGR Valve, specifically one that's stuck open?

Here are my symptoms: rough idle, hard starting, poor acceleration. I have looked at literally...literally...LITERALLY...every other component in, on and around my engine, except for the potential EGR valve leak. So, can someone help me find it, or the mechanism that controls the EGR functions? Thanks!!!

i just found this thing: Amazon.com: Dorman 911-803 Vapor Vent Valve for Hyundai: Automotive

it says that it'll fit on my engine - but...where is it supposed to go?! lol.
The vapor vent valve goes to the hoses that go in the charcoal canister. It is not the EGR valve. I don't think you have an EGR valve. (Been wrong before) The symptoms you are describing sound like a vacuum leak. Older vehicle is bound to have some rotten hoses or decayed gaskets. Or as suggested needs a tune up.

@jetech00001 - well, i acquired the vehicle at 75,000 miles and ever since, i've done a "piecemeal" kind of tune-up. one replacement here, another replacement there. i've attached a list of all the repairs and services i've had done on the vehicle, including the dates. i forgot to include a PCV valve replacement on the list, from late 2012, but it was indeed done.

cleaning or replacing the EGR valve is the one thing i haven't done yet, and the remaining symptoms i'm experience appear to be exactly what one would expect from a dirty or faulty EGR.

hope this helps :)

@kville kia: thanks so much for the info and the diagram!! but may i ask - will a faulty or defective charcoal canister valve cause driveability problems? this seems to be related to the EVAP system, and i would imagine that it might lead to a check engine light or a smog test failure, but i'm unsure as to whether it would cause driveability issues like the ones i'm having.

but i don't know, so i'm genuinely wanting to learn more :)

to clarify, it's less a "rough idle" than a strong engine vibration at idle and at stop lights. it gets worse once the engine is warm. i also have some hesitation and sluggish acceleration, and the transmission doesn't shift as smoothly as it should. so it does FEEL like a vacuum leak, but my guess is that it's either an old hose or the EGR system.

and @rhandwor: would you mind taking a picture of yours? if i can see what it looks like, or if i can just see the general area, then that'll help me greatly. and thanks so much for your feedback!! it is greatly appreciated!!

thanks everyone!

To answer your question, no, I do not think a faulty purge valve is causing your issue.

No sure if I missed it, are you getting any fault codes, if your not sure you should be able to take it to a auto parts store and have them check if you do not have the tools....

From what you describe I would look at the following:

1) Tune up if not already done
2) Intake system / hoses looking for leaks
3) Diagnostic work, fuel pressure check, O2 sensor check & short and long term fuel checks using a scan tool
4) Report back to the forum with your progress..... :)
