I have a 2007 Kia Sorento Lx. The problem I am having is a shuttering when braking at high speed and today with some snow on the ground there is a really bad grinding noise that I can feel in the brake pedal when applying the brakes but with the vehicle starting to slide. It also makes the noise when it is in 4wd and I accelerate and spin the tires. I am not trying to abuse the vehicle but I don't have snow tires yet so I have very little traction. What could be going wrong? Any help is appreciated.
I did just replace the rotors and brake pads, probably four months ago. At first everything functioned fine then the shuttering when slowing down at higher speeds and now today the really bad grinding when the wheels lose traction.
If you had brake service done 4 mos ago only, go back and have them inspect and fix the issue. Since you haven't done anything to that yourself it's either bad install or bad parts.
Sorry for not being clear, I did install the parts. I was pretty methodical but I could have messed something up. I will take it in and see what they say. I was just curious if anyone had a similar experience and could give me a solution.
If you installed the parts, take wheel off, take a look at the caliper and two bolts holding it, check pads and disk visually, check for movement, pads alignment etc.
I have noticed when I have driven in snow here in the UK (not that often I am glad to say and no "winter tyres") if the wheels slide and the ABS cuts in this does sound like as if it grinding. At first I thought it was because the pads had worn down to the metal but this wasn't the case. I put it all back together and it still happened so I lived with it. That was on an 03 Sedona My wife's car is an 05 Carens and that does the same thing I have no idea why it does it but, as I said, we don't get that much snow here so we just live with it. I will admit that is a "tooth putting on edge" sort of noise.
