2003 Sorento won't turn over. Battery and all electrical components check out good. All the lights, the radio and all warning lights and beepers work. When I turn the key nothing happens. There is a faint click from the firewall behind the dash but I cannot isolate the sound. It is not very loud. BUT, this does not happen all the time. First happened a few days ago. Drove to the store and it wouldn't start. After 30 minutes of frustration, it started. Started fine for a few days then wouldn't start at the store last night. 30 minutes later, it started. Wouldn't start this morning and won't start now. Any suggestion. My first thought was the neutral safety switch, but for $300, I am hoping for a cheaper fix.
Update.. Turns out to be something in the ignition switch. If I reach up under the dash and move the connector as I turn the key, it starts fine. I just have to figure out how to remove the plastic panel without doing too much damage.
I figured out how to remove the lower dash panels and I removed the ignition switch. I carefully disassembled the switch and cleaned the contacts. I reassembled the switch and did not have anymore trouble.
UNTIL TODAY!! Started just fine when I left work. Drove home and parked. A short time later it would not start. Won't crank but everything else works. There is not sound this time. Don't know if it is the switch or not. Tomorrow should be fun.
