Default 3.5 crank bolt removal?

Hi my name is Mike, and I am new to the forum thing...my wife has a 2003 kia sorento, we had a piece of a butterfly from the intake stuck in the head. i pulled the head, and had it rebuilt i pulld a cam gear to get the head off because i have been unable to get the crank bolt loose. i now need to get the crank bolt loose to time the engine...i have tried 2 impact wrenches, bought a 3' peice of pipe and stuck a big screw driver in the fly wheel to try to break it loose, no luck. any ideas?
Thank You.

It is possible that someone has previously Locktited the bolt. You could try heating the bolt or:

You can try this, although I take no responsibility and it may break the bolt. Put a six point socket on the bolt and a long extension bar or breaker bar on the socket. Line everything up so that it is perfectly square. Rest the breaker bar securely on the chassis so that when the engine turns, it will undo the bolt. Then get in the car and turn the starter for a second.

Just on cmar's suggestion (cudos to the thinking that up), make sure you remove fuel lines so it doesn't actually start. Or im sure there will be a fuse you can pull to the fuel pump or something?
(Just in case. When you want it to start, it wont. When you dont want it to start, it will)
that murphey and his laws!

Hi Bob

Can't claim too much credit for that one, it came to me from a quote by a Mitsubishi mechanic who rgularly used this trick to undo the crank bolt in Pajero and Terracan 3.5's ie the same engine. And yes it is wise to take some precaution against the engine starting.

Remove the fuse to the pump. Run engine till it dies then attempt removal. Same thing you do to remove fuel pump from tank.
