Question car locks itself!

my 2004 optima has started locking itself from the passenger side doorhandle. any time some one pulls on the handle to get in, the locks are triggered and it locks its self. this happens running or not.it also does it from inside the car. yesterday my wife had to set in the back because we could not get it to function correctly. anyone with the same problem? any suggestions?

Faulty door lock or maybe out of adjustment.

took it to the dealer today and they want 125.00 to fix it. the guy said most of the time its the drivers door instead of the passanger that goes bad. the Part is only 50.00 the rest is labor. he never said what that part was.

$125 sounds cheap for something done by a dealer. If you can ask him what part it is you can decide for yourself whether or not you want it done by someone who knows exactly what they're doing, or you can take a look at the service manuals on kiatechinfo.com and try diy.

Chances are something is misaligned to where the door handle makes contact with the knob and pushes it down. I'm from an expert, but it's my opinion.

My drivers door latch went bad a few months back. Seems to be an issue with these cars. The only problem was, it went bad when the door was closed so there was no way to open it. A locksmith had to be called to dis-assemble the door from the inside of the car with the door closed to get into it. It cost me a pretty penny.

I just had this very thing happen on my 04 Optima this morning. I went to get in the drivers door and the door kept locking everytime I tried to open it. Haven't had a chance to have anybody look at it yet but will hopefully be able to get it taken care of tomorrow.
