Ok.. I can solve almost anyone elses problem with their car but this Kia Optima is killing me.
Here it goes..
2002 Kia optima 4cyl
Car turns over but no start (no spark)checked more than once.. and I smell fuel (including trying starting fluid)
Parts replaced
1. Camshaft sensor -twice to make sure
2. Crank Sensor
3. Both coils
4. Ecm (used from junk yard) wasn't the original problem so I basically have 2 ecms
5. Timing belt=== and is still in tact
Ok.. here is my last chance ... ECM relay.. I have a schemtic of the ignition system.
Ok my question
Any other ideas??? .. and where is the ecm relay.. I had a shop tell me that its near the ecm but there is a ton of wires a few relays near the ecm.
I've been searching online and have not found one thread with my problem exactly.
And 1 more thing I replaced... the misfire sensor..
I was having a misfire problem that seemed to be related to heat or at least got worse with heat.
The trouble code I got just before not being able to start it was ... multiple misfire and cam sensor. ie.. my twice replacement of the cam sensor.
mine was doing the same thing. turned out to be a bad crank sensor. have you checked it at the connection by the intake while trying to start the car? is it turning over completely?
Yes the car is turning over completely... and I just had a shop install the crank sensor. Thanks for responding. I'm just about ready to part out the car .. I almost have enough parts to make another kia.. j/k
Ok I did the voltage test for the crank sensor and the voltage checks out good. I checked the ground part of the coil and I am getting a ground situation on start up. The voltage I'm getting is very low.. .2 volts on either side.. does anyone know if this is accurate? and if this is wrong does that lead to a faulty ignition switch?
Ok my question

The ECM relay is in the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment - it's labelled differently on some models, but the most common label I've seen is "EGI" or "MAIN" relay. The Fuel Pump relay is in the same box.

Ok.. Here is where I'm at... I pulled both coils off and found that the ohm readings were out of spec... In my experience coils rarely go .. but on this kia there is a power resister inside the coil and if there are any short outs it is possible for a coil or coils to go bad.
Here is the coil test
IGNITION COIL (2.4 Liter Engine : Power Transistor Bulilt-in)
1. Measurement of the primary coil resistance
Connect the negative (-) terminal of a 3V power supply to terminal 2 of the power transistor; then check whether there is continuity between terminal 3 and terminal 2 when terminal 1 and the positive (+) terminal are connected and disconnected.
Terminal 1 and (+) terminal Terminal 3 and terminal 2
Connected Continuity (Approximately 0.78Ω)
Disconnected No continuity

These readings confirm that the power transistor is switching and there's continuity of the coils primary winding.
Why not try a test lamp (or DVM) across the terminals while the engine is cranked and confirm there's pulses.
