Default 2002 Optima No start

I have done a search and nothing. My 2002 Optima has the 2.4 liter engine. Prior to the no start condition the car had developed some drivability problems until it eventually died. The car has good spark and I am getting 180psi compression on all 4 cylinders. I checked timing and the marks are dead on. The car is however flooding. I suspected a bad fuel pressure regulator, however when I removed the fuel pump fuse I could not get it to fire at all. It just won't catch. The only code I get is PO102 MAF sensor voltage output low.

When I try to start the car with starting fluid all I get is a massive intake Backfire. Would a broken balance shaft belt cause ignition timing to go out?

I don't want to trow parts at this car as that can get very expensive. I just need all your opinions, maybe someone can throw me in the right direction.

Any help will be appreciated.

At the risk of sounding condescending...I would start with the MAF. If the output from the MAF is out of wack, then the computer is going to input the wrong amount of fuel (either too much or too little).

Finally found the problem.

Crank sensor wire rubbed against timing belt and caused a short.

Thanks for letting us know the problem. Its funny how one "little" sensor can cause so many problems...

hi,
I just want to ask you , HOW did you solve the short problem? because I have a 2001 optima and I replaced the timing belt and drove it for about 200 meters before it broke down and the RPM gauge goes crazy when I try to start the car so I took it to a mechanic
who tried to solve the problem by replacing the crankshaft sensor, long story short ,at the time being the car is at the mechanic's shop and he found out about the short but he still can't fix it!!!!!!!!! so please help me................
thanks

just to answer one of the questions since you figured out the problem is no the balance belt cant do that unless the missing teeth hit the crank sensor. ive eliminated the balance belt on my car and have been driving it like that for a few thousand miles. funny thing is it revs faster and has a bit more power. very slight vib over 80mph but its not noticable under and is barely noticable anyway. someone driving the car for the first time would think its normal.
