check engine light doesn't work

I recently had my 2002 optima inspected and failed. My check engine light did light up when car was started. Upon further investigation, I found there is no longer a bulb for the check engine light, or one for the airbag light, where it looks like it belongs. Can someone please tell me what I need to purchase and how to repair it, so I can pass inspection?

Welcome to the forum.

It's a puzzling that the CEL did come on, but you later found that there was no bulb installed.

Take a bulb out one of the other indication lamps for a sample and replace it, however a new bulb will not help towards getting it through inspection, for that you need to get the stored error codes read and research these on the KiaTech web site (see my sig for the link) or post them here and based on that we could suggest what may be the problem.
