01 optima balance belt stripped
long story short car died suddenly a few months ago abd ive been letting it sit so i can some nice temps before i tore into it. i got the timing cover off and and i noticed the balance belt was completely stripped of teeth. timing belt looks fine but i do know the crank sensor is bad now. question is is a failed balance belt enough to destroy the motor like a timing belt or is it a minor thing, just pull it and replace it, no harm no foul. im pretty sure other than the belt being shot the sensor is gone and if replaced itll start. unless of course the stripped belt caused bent valves or some such thing.
