Default Newbie Intro

Hi Guys! I just bought my first Kia. It's an '05 Optima in Dark Blue and I look forward to doing a few mods. I've already yanked the front badge and it's looking better. I think I may go all the way around, wheels and all, later. Anyway just wanted to say hi and I look forward to being on here and loving my Kia!

Hi all. I am new to this forum, but not new to owning a Kia. I have an 03 Optima SE, all options, ruby red (love the color,) automatic (would have preferred 5-speed, but that would defeat the "luxury" aspect of the car, wouldn't it?)

The vehicle I have had been a display and had been sent around the country as a model for the showing the options available (all options are on this car.) The dealer wanted to sell me different Kia. I wanted the 4cyl and the red. That was the only one on the lot. Plus a heafty discount since it was an 03 I was buying in 04. It had only 50 miles on it.

It is a one-owner, one-driver car, so I know when something is going great or absolutely wrong.

It has 62,700 miles and it has been driven long highway miles (talkin 4000 mi round-trip) at least twice a year.

I have had some electical problems (auto door lock) repaired thru warranty.
Auto seat would get stuck, warranty took care of that.

I'm not a fan of the "donut" spare. I prefer a full-size spare. I bought the black, steel rim from Kia and had a tire mounted on it. The rims are aluminum otherwise. Not an important point, but I like the idea of changing to a spare and keep going without worrying about it.

I do, even though sometimes a little late (within 1000 mi) maintenance. Always have the oil changed at 3000. I do emphasize you make sure the Timing Belt (serpentine) is replaced just before it is scheduled. Your precious Kia will die and possibly sustain permanent damage.

Except for the minor problems, so far so good, except now......

It has been dying with accleration. The engine light goes on then off when it dies. I'm hoping for something simple...fuel filter, pvc or air filter. It's going for diagnostic.

Rambling on and on, I know.

I hope some of the info and my personal experience with the car helps in some way.

Any ideas concerning my latest problem, get back with.

Later, Lucy
