Smile 05 Optima LX 5Spd Head Unit Questions

Hi: I have a 2005 Optima LX 5 Speed, with the basic AM/FM Cd player.
(No Cassette). Under the head Unit is a flip down storage bin.

My questions are as follows.
- Can I somehow connect an aux input to this head unit. ie, I would like to patch in an MP3 player.

- If the above is possible, can you point me to free instructions on how to do this, and free pictures showing the removal instructions?

- If this is not possible can you reccomend a replacement deck? I would like one that has both an AUX input for plugging in an analog jack for an MP3, and perhaps a USB input that would accept an IPOD and/or just a memory stick.

- In any event I still need clear directions/pictures on how to remove
the head unit.

Thanks! BT

PS I scoured this forum, and I did not find these answers or instructions... Any help is much appreciated!!!

Unfortunatly you cant add an Aux input to the standard audio set.

You can get reasonably priced sets with better audio quality than the original.
I installed one that plays MP3 CD's.

Try this site for a large selection of in-dash stereos.
Serach for those with Aux or USB input - there are a few.
They also have good installation guide.

You can also select the "iPod ready" ones.

I ended up buying a Sony Head Unit, this went in rather easily with a remapped apapter wire. Now I have an MP3 jack (Analog) on the front face as well as an MP3 CDR/CDRW player. The Player works very well.
(ie bettor than the analog in...) I will probably just make some CDRW's and use these... The radio also comes with a remote that works well. The only think I dislaike are the small sony controls...
