Default Front Door Speakers

Can anyone tell me what the maximum depth for top mounting speakers in the front doors of a 2004 Optima is?

Sorry, haven't seen on for a few days. But to answer your question, I'm not really sure what the max depth is. But what I can tell you is to be careful because there is NOTHING in between the speaker magnet and the glass for the window. I believe that my pioneer is about 2.5" in lenth from the mount to the end of the magnet. Also wanted to mention that with my install I had to make adjustments with the mounts. I had to drill holes to make the screws fit correctly. Hope that helps and good luck with the install!

Thanks for the information. I've got a new head unit on order and will be installing everything once it comes in.

I'll let you know how it all turns out.

I saw the speaker depth specs at a reseller, I think it was Crutchfield. You might want to check that out.

Between rain and work all of the installation work has been pushed back and is still not done yet. However, I should have everything together soon (I hope!)

Another question about the front door speakers. According to the folks at Crutchfield, the top height is very tight due to the close mounting of the factory grilles. For those that have replaced the front speakers, did you just take off the factory grilles and leave them off, or did you find speakers that mounted fine behind them? Crutchfield has only one(!) pair that will fit behind the stock grilles and I want something different.

Also, do 6 1/2" drop right in? I've got a pair of Babb 5 1/4" that I want to drop into place, but assume I need some type of adapter ring? Will a generic adapter work?

Thanks!!!

it still kinda bugs me that crutchfield doesnt think that 6.5" speakers wont fit yet every other retailer says that they will. I have always used crutchfield as an online resource for sizes and such, but for the optima they just dont list anything right. they also seem to think that double din stereos wont fit but i know of three people locally that have done it with no problems what so ever. on the cutting the grill off thing that might not look right since the grill is not a circle, you might end up with some gap that would look very unprofessional.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, with the move (traveled 2,000 Miles) and no internet it's kinda hard. NEWayz, in my case I left everything that came with the car.. I used the stock wiring and just used a soldering iron to connect the aftermarket adapters that came with the speakers. I then had to drill holds into the plastic mounts that are attached to the door. The grills that came with the speakers I did not use.. the speakers did fit behind the stock grills that are built in to the door panel.

My front speakers are Pioneer 6.5" and my rears are Rockford Fosgate 6x9".

As for the 5.25" speakers that you've bought, I'm not sure what type of adapter ring you might need.. you just might need some brackets to attach them to the mount. Hope everything turns out well.. I'll try to get back on once I have internet in the house.. I'm currently in the local library. lmao!
